As many here know, I was in Germany last week for the big May 10 Berlin event. What some may not know is that I had an opportunity to spend some time shooting with the M Monochrom and 50 APO-Summicron when I took a side trip for a few days to Wetzlar and Solms.

I just ran out several 20x30 inch prints from shots at various ISO settings. As good as these images look on screen, I was shocked (pleasantly) how clean and gorgeous they look when printed big.

Shots at ISO 6,400 and ISO 10,000 are virtually noise free at this size with gobs of detail. At base ISO 320 the level of detail and smoothness is beyond amazing.

Anyway, thought I'd share my initial observations. I will be publishing a full review with lots of sample shots very soon. Look for it in the Review section here on Red Dot Forum.

If you have any questions on the M Monochrom, I've started a new sub forum. Please post questions there.

Leica R APO-Telyt-S 800mm f/6.3 is an extremely rare super telephoto lens designed for the Leica R SLR camera system. Product code is 11921. This lens was first shown at Photokina in 1970 and marketed in 1972. It features a 3-element design using special glass which reduces residual aberration and unsharpness to less than a third found in normal optical glass. It delivers excellent resolution and contrast. Compared to a standard 50mm lens, this lens offers 16x magnification.

Check out this thread here on Red Dot Forum for more photos from this lens.

The lens itself weighs about 15 pounds, and is 41 inches long with the hood attached. This is quite a large lens, and uses a built in rack-and-pinion focusing system to assure accurate and smooth focusing. The lens accepts Series VII filters in a slot near the camera end of the lens.

This lens is unusually rare, Leica made less than 350 examples worldwide. Minimum focus distance is 41 feet (12.5 meters). The lens has multiple tripod sockets for proper mounting.

This listing includes a Novoflex Canon EOS to Leica R adapter (which is the best adapter available), allowing this lens to be used for both stills and video on any Canon digital SLR camera, including the new 5D Mark III.

The image included in this listing was taken using this lens on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with the included adapter. No camera is included with this listing.

This lens is in excellent condition. The glass has no scratches. The lens barrel is not missing any paint. Focusing is very smooth and easy to make fine adjustments.

This listing includes the lens case, 800mm lens (five individual pieces in total), which includes the hood, hood extension, Novoflex Canon EOS adapter, and all original lens caps/covers (six caps/covers in total). No camera is included.

The dimensions of the lens case are 22 inches wide, 16 inches in depth, and 8 inches high. Total weight with the lens inside is 30 pounds.

This lens was made in Germany.

Serial Number: 2500849

Price is $7,000 with free UPS Ground shipping within the USA. Contact me via private message or email at josh@dalephotoanddigital.com for more information.

Leica DNG2NEF, need S2 files

Hi folks,

Hi folks,

Time ago, I wrote a M9 DNG to Nikon NEF converter, see here,

http://bagnonm.blogspot.se/search/label/DNG2NEF

I have expanded this tool to also support the X1, M8, and now I'm working on the S2. For each Leica model, I need a NEF container with a similar or bigger resolution than the DNG file, and with the release of the D800, the latest Capture NX also allows to happily process S2 files.

The only S2 files I have been able to test are from firmware 1.0.0.9, taken from here, http://www.photographyblog.com/previews/leica_s2_photos, and I need to test recent firmware files.

Can you provide me with S2 files of the latest/recent camera firmware? I do not need them to be nice pictures, just uncompressed DNG files.

Volunteers may want to try the following beta on such S2 DNG files. It is a Mac OS 10.7 64bit program, set the flag "Strict compat." to "No" to process your files,

http://www.bagnon.com/dng2nef/dng2nef3beta.app.zip

Many thanks in advance,

Miguel
