Thanks for the helpful instruction. I looked up the Sony GPS CS3 at B&H and others but it seems that it is discontinued. Does anyone know what could be good alternatives?

Do you have the S2 or the S2P? I have the same issue with the leathrette on the card door.

I am planning to go as well. It's only 2h by train from Brussels for me :D. I have not decided when and probaly only will do so shortly before. If you guys set something up, I will try to make it. The weekend 22/23 should normally work. During the week depends on workload.

I intend to update over the weekend. Is there anything one needs to be aware of. The worst thing that I can imagine is that my catalogue of 30 k (not all S2 though) immages goes south or that the development settings are suddenly way off.

    Thanks.

And I thought you be monitoring this 24/7???…Just kidding :D:D:D.

My dealer already offered to send the battery to Leica and ask for a replacement. Anyway, the thought that this could have happened during my safari in January or somewhere in the middle of Sri Lanka, still freaks me out.

@pebbleplace: I am not sure a charger that shows the charge would help. I has the impression the battery went south from one moment to another. The odd thing is that on the charger it shows that it is more than 80% charged.

I did not have a 2nd battery but got one from my dealer. Turned out it was the battery indeed. Quite a relief.

Lesson learned: carry a second battery, even though one does not need one (as I never got even close to use a complete charge until being able to charge again). Good thing is this happened at home. I would have been devastated, had that happened on one of my trips.

David, the key question I'd want insight on is how Leica will continue supporting S2 owners with firmware updates that refine performance?

The speculative chatter regarding a S3 is irritating to those that dropped $25K on the S2 and may not be ready for another $25-30K investment soon … at least not without an upgrade path like those offered by the other professional MFD makers.

Please ask whether there will be any firmware update that will improve autofocus tracking of moving objects (not race cars but people walking at normal spead).

    Thanks.

Thanks, Marc. I will try that. So far, I had it set to continuous focus.

Field test was positive. Obviously, carrying an S2, 3 lenses, a bit RRS tripod and an Arca d4 hear is not really a pleasure, but the backpack made it bearable.

David–Again many thanks for the tip.

Thanks Mark, David and Tom. I am not sure how many S2 shots were submitted but I know for sure that I hAVE seen many here and elsewhere that would have deserved to be in the book.

    Tom,
I ordered the Kata from Amazon as the prices of dealers in Belgium were prohibitive. It arrived yesterday. The S2 w/ 4 lenses fits in easily (one could even add a M9 and a couple of lenses). I particularly like the tripod holder, which seems to hold well the RRS tripod. Even if i will not allways take the whole stuff, the backpack will be useful as it allows to carry some things other than the gear.

Now so far i only tested it in my bedroom. The field trest is still to come.

    David,

Thanks for the tip. Will check this one out. Would love to buy from your store but I am based in Europe.

Thanks for sharing this. I am very hesitant whether I should sell the 35 and get the 30. On many occasions I would like the wider FOV. But, (1) the gap to the 70 is then really big and (2) there will be the 24 comming which will be really wide (may be too wide?). I am also speculating on the 30-90 zoom which I heard should be ready for Photokina.

BTW, great stuff on your website, in particular the China series. Made the S2 shine!
