Just as a “for what it's worth” note, I recently had occasion to shoot with the Contax 350 APO Tessar on my S2 P and found the image quality to easily be the equal of more modern lenses but the auto focus was a bit slow. In truth, I ended up using it as a manual focus system and was quite pleased with the results. Until Leica comes forth with their 350, if in fact they ever do, this is an excellent alternative.

These are great images, thanks for sharing. My wife and I are going to be visting the Wiliamette Valley wineries and then traveling up the Olympic Penninsula into Seattle this fall with my S2 kit in tow and I do hope to be able to capture some similar shots.

Thanks for your reply Stephan. The delay that I am referring to is the time between pressing the shutter button and the opening of the shutter. In the “TTL-HSS” mode, my subjects are often in the next room by that time; I do however have some lovely, perfectly exposed images of walls and such which should lend nicely to the creative mind: one can only imagine what might have been there. Perhaps I have inadvertently ushered in a new style.
I plan on trying to shoot in the manual mode setting the shutter speed at 1/125 and the flash on Automatic while adjusting the aperture as necessary…I am just disappointed in being unable to utilize the benefits of “TTL-HSS” mode. - January 5, 2012 at 5:20 pm #1821
Although this might be deemed heresy and reason for forthwith interdiction, I thought that this might be of some interest here. This morning I placed ( dare I say it??) a Canon 500D Diopter in fromt of the 120 as a quick test. Posted below are crops of the same image shot with the bare 120 and with the 120 / diopter combination at minimum focusing distance with both displayed at 100% in PS5… for what it my be worth.

I find that when using “TTL-HSS” mode with the SF-58 in aperture priority or manual exposure there is a capture delay that more often than not results in my having missed the image given that I often shoot uncooperative moving targets. I assume that I am doing something wrong, but I do not know what. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
