Today, Leica announced the special edition M Monochrom “Stealth Edition”. The set was designed by Marcus Wainwright, founder and owner of fashion brand rag & bone, and includes a 35mm Summicron-M ASPH. Wainright, a long-time Leica shooter, primarily works in black and white film.
Both camera and lens are finished in a scratch-resistant matte black paint and jet-black leather. Engravings, normally filled with white paint on black cameras, instead are mostly blacked out, with some featuring a special fluorescent paint which has a green lume in the dark. For example, the shutter speed dial only has the “A” and flash setting highlighted and the lens only shows f/2, 5.6 and 16 settings. Rounding out the package is a black fabric carrying strap, metal front lens cap, and certificate of authenticity.
The special edition, priced at $15,750 is limited to 125 pieces worldwide, and will be sold later this month through Leica Stores and Boutiques.
Leica Store Miami is currently accepting pre-orders for the set. Click the link below, call 305-921-4433, or by email at info@leicastoremiami.
LEICA M MONOCHROM “STEALTH EDITION” DESIGNED BY MARCUS WAINWRIGHT OF RAG & BONE
Leica Camera is pleased to present the Leica M Monochrom “Stealth Edition” designed by Marcus Wainwright, founder and owner of the acclaimed fashion label “rag & bone”. Wainwright, a dedicated Leica photographer shoots with various Leica cameras, often in black and white using his M6. The Leica M Monochrom “Stealth Edition” consists of a M Monochrom (Typ 246) and Summicron-M 35 mm.
This special edition set is limited to 125 units and will be sold through Leica Stores and Boutiques. The technical features of the Monochrom camera and 35 mm Summicron lens are identical to the regular production units. Deliveries will begin later this month.
Marcus Wainright’s design concept is the individual perfection of existing icons. With the Leica M Monochrom “Stealth Edition”, this means taking the discreet unobtrusiveness of the camera to the extreme. A special scratch-resistant, matte paint is used to make the surface finish as black as possible while the camera’s leather trim in jet-black is made from an extremely smooth full-grain cowhide that offers excellent grip.
The camera has a striking visual as the important engravings on the camera and lens are intentionally highlighted with a special fluorescent paint that glows in the dark. This allows faster setting of the aperture or focusing of the lens in low-light situations.
The lens included in the set has the classic street photographer’s focal length of 35 mm and is finished with the same special paint as the camera body – a striking yet subtle matte black. The set includes a comfortable black fabric carrying strap, a metal front cap for the lens, and a certificate of authenticity.
