Why cannot cancer treatment become cheaper?

When I was very little, about 4 years old, my best friend died of leukemia, and another friend died at 18. Now over 80% of children with leukemia survive due to improved treatments – my neice spent a couple of years under treatment but is now a thriving young adult.

My sister in law died of ovarian cancer last year. She was given a very poor prognosis at diagnosis but responded well to treatment and had 5 good years before the cancer finally won – and they were very good years 🙂
