Today, Leica has launched a new promotion on the recently introduced Leica M EV1, offering savings of up to $1,250 when purchasing the camera together with one of two silver-finish Summilux-M lenses. The new kits pair the standard black M EV1 with either a Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH FLE II in silver or the classic Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 in silver chrome. Beyond the savings, both combinations offer a distinctive two-tone take on the M EV1, contrasting the all-black camera with either the crisp silver finish of the modern FLE or the vintage-inspired silver-chromed brass of the classic reissue 50 Lux.

A Natural Match for the M EV1
Introduced late last year as the first Leica M camera with a built-in electronic viewfinder, the M EV1 offers a different approach to the traditional M shooting experience. In place of the optical rangefinder, the high-resolution EVF provides through-the-lens viewing and focusing, making it particularly well suited to fast-aperture lenses, close-up work and situations where precise focus placement is critical. That makes the two Summilux-M lenses in these new kits particularly interesting choices.

Leica M EV1 with Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH. FLE II
The first kit pairs the Leica M EV1 with the latest Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH FLE II in silver. Priced at $15,240 for the pair, this represents a savings of $1,250 versus purchasing the camera and lens separately.
Beyond the savings, the 35mm Summilux is a natural fit for the M EV1. The lens focuses down to 0.4 meters, extending well beyond the 0.7-meter limit of the traditional M rangefinder, allowing for even greater subject isolation and tighter details. As with other lenses in the growing range of close-focus M glass, the focusing mechanism decouples from the rangefinder below 0.7 meters, requiring Live View or an electronic viewfinder to focus. On the M EV1, that’s simply business as usual. The camera’s built-in EVF allows for quick and precise focusing throughout the lens’s entire focus range.

Leica M EV1 with Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 Silver Chrome
For those who prefer a more traditional 50mm setup, Leica is also pairing the M EV1 with the classic Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 in silver chrome. At $12,890, the kit represents a savings of $1,000 versus purchasing the camera and lens separately.
The classic 50mm Summilux takes the combination in a different direction. Compact and unmistakably traditional in both appearance and operation, the silver chrome lens gives the decidedly modern M EV1 a distinctly classic M look. At the same time, the EVF makes it easy to nail focus at f/1.4, especially with the lens’s lower-contrast, slightly dreamy rendition wide open.
