I’ve been wondering — do these job platforms actually work for finding solid people?

Last month, I needed a backend dev fast and tried two popular platforms. Got a ton of replies, but honestly, most weren’t even close to what I needed. Maybe I did something wrong, or maybe it’s just luck? Curious if anyone had better results.

I’ve been down that road too. I used to rely on job boards when I was managing a small app project, thinking I’d get access to a wide pool of talent. But I ended up spending way too much time filtering through unqualified applicants — even after writing a super detailed job post. Eventually, I switched gears and used a staff augmentation service I found through this site. It was a different vibe altogether. On that site, they connected me with developers who were already screened and had relevant experience. Saved me weeks of back-and-forth, and the quality was noticeably higher.

Just dropping in to say this thread is giving me a lot to think about. I’m not hiring right now, but I’ve been on the other side — applying for freelance gigs and short-term contracts. It’s interesting to see how much hassle hiring managers go through, because from our end, it often seems like companies have tons of options. I guess it’s not always about quantity but finding that right fit. Watching this convo closely, thanks for sharing your experiences.
