Focus Peaking Using Non-Coded Older M lenses

Hello-I’m new here, and just received my Leica SL this week. I don’t seem to able able to use the Focus Peaking mode while using an older non-coded M lens. I set the camera for Focus Peaking, and it works when I use a new AF lens in Manual mode. Any help would be appreciated.
