I am looking at the Nikon R1C1. The kit includes a 72mm ring that should fit the 120mm macro. Before I buy it, i plan to ask the guys at Dale for their opinion.

I thought that the R1C1 might work with the S2 in manual mode, but according to a few S2 owners who have the R1C1 and have tried it, the R1C1 does not work.

I’m curious if Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX would work in Manual mode on the S2…. any S2 users have one laying around?

I confirm that the R1C1 does not work … Or at least that I cannot get it to work.

Just curious, why a little ring-light?

Ring-lights produce flat results, flat as a pancake.

Big Ring-light strobes produce a shadowless effect often used for fashion, but for macro I’ve never understood the concept of dead-on flat light (except maybe for scientific recording where art, or modeling the shape of the subject, isn’t the objective.)

    Here’s an alternative to consider:

Add an extension arm, get any two small speed-lights to mount on the arms,
and get a double split Y sync cord that plugs into the S2’s sync port:

Way more creative control of the lighting effects.

    Oops! Sorry.

I posted the wrong link for the Really Right Stuff solution, here’s the correct one.

I think that fotografz is on the right 😀 track. I am thinking about getting the RRS macro ring and rack. The next problem will be the flash. If one mounts a pair of flashes on the RRS ring, could one fire them with a pocket wizard? What about hand holding the SF 58 and using the RC-S cable release?
