Enjoying the daily posts of new england ..looks like you are getting some cold weather at least early in the morning. David is starting to take on the persona of one of the PBS wilderness photographers . The color looks like its coming in for you and you had some winter clouds making for some nice images .

This week i am the armchair traveler. Wish i could have attended but maybe next year.

Its using the current firmware .

I expect its star trails as well . Nothing shows up when shooting in a dark room. however I doubt the star moved that far in a 32 s exposure . Is this similar to pixel overloading when shooting a bright point source. Something like this was reported on the M9 .

attached an easy to see example . ISO160 32S exposure . Similar diagonal stripes in other images less dramatic and they don t seem to show up in shorter exposures.

I think Diglloyd found a similar issue on a M9 ..have to do more work to tell.

The BH55 and my series 2 have been located in an abandoned sports car in Florida …my garage ! I used this combination with the D3X and had good results at the beach . Was testing it with the S2 this spring and it seemed fine. Plus its very portable .

Seems like the consensus is around a Gitzo series 3 ..just as a standard size for the S2 .

I was somewhat surprised by the LL article on “the best tripod” where the author commented on the need for a 5 series equivalent for MF .

Thanks David . The series 3 size with a good ball head (RRS,ARCA etc) seems like the right size but I was reacting to the article on LL where the author swears we will be giving away some necessary stability.

Not confused but maybe misinformed. I did a LR class with Kevin Ames …the photoshop guru that writes about beauty retouching. He was all over the use of the clarity slider and was recommending very high settings (for landscapes) . I know as you build an archive overtime that there is an advantage to having some consistency in rendering. For example when the pros look back at their life s work ..its nice that everything they shot on kodachrome or tri x has a similar look. Its good that Leica has been liberal in honoring warranties especially on used items purchased thru dealers.

I think everything on the DMR was due to faulty electrical . The contacts once completely cleaned helped a lot but the batteries were starting to age and depending on the usage (a lot of captures in a short period of time ) would sometimes overwhelm the battery power.

I use a mix of Sandisk and Lexar cards . In Sandisk I use the Ultra,extreme and new extreme pro in 8gb and 16gb formats .
