That doesn’t sound right at all. My screen is better in dim light than it is in bright light. Maybe your screen brightness is set too high and it is washing out. That is the only think I can think of to cause the screen to be grey in dim light and good in normal light. At least is an easy menu selection to adjust the screen brightness and see if that helps. Otherwise you may have a problem with the screen itself.

Your Monitor Back Plane Brightness setting is currently on Automatic. This adjusts the monitor backlight (not image brightness) based on ambient lighting conditions. To change:

1) Setup menu
2) Monitor/Display
3) Back Plane
4) Backlight
5) Change to Medium
6) Confirm by depressing the thumb wheel

This should solve your problem.
