I have been a long time user of ACR and Phocus, I don't use (have owned it since inception) LightRoom on a regular basis.
Just wondering what software are you using to process DNG files from your S camera? Do you use a custom color profile, or any other non standard processes?
Let me know.
Thank you,

Bob,
My impression is that the video quality from the S 007 will be superior and more purpose-driven than that of the M 240. Still, the M40 video does actually look pretty good. We filmed our entire video instruction series on the S 006 with the M 240. You can view the series here.
You are correct that there is no image stabilization for…[Read more]

When I'm shooting sunrise photos I almost always use strobes. Thought I'd try something different for this image since it was intended to be more of a product shot than to showcase the model. I've got three potential clients interested in the shot…one sells yoga pants, another has a line of “clean” beverages and snacks and the third is rolling…[Read more]

I am considering the new S for its video allowing the flexibility of a single uni for photos and video. However I read about the M's video limitaitons and will wait and look forward to evaluating the S's capabilities. I would use it hand-held in some situations and the lack of optical stabilization is a concern. I am wondering how large…[Read more]

dalethorn replied to the topic When memory cards die in the forum Memory and Storage 11 years, 7 months ago
I've been using many flash memory cards since 1994. In the mid-2000's I had a couple of corrupted cards and a few people I knew also had corrupted cards – compact flash and SD cards. All of those I recovered with Windows 98, since the Windows NT/2000/XP and newer O/S versions (as well as Mac) could not read those cards.
Since then I've lost a…[Read more]

Wikipedia defines “Bokeh (usually pronounced Boc-ah) as the blur or aesthetic quality of the blur, in the out-of-focus areas of an image. The term comes from the Japanese word boke, which means “blur” or “haze […]

Peter Dooling wrote a new post, Adobe Camera Raw 8.7 Released with Support for New Leica Products 11 years, 7 months ago
Today, Adobe released Camera Raw 8.7 and DNG Converter 8.7 RC (release candidate) with support for the following Leica products:
- Leica V-Lux (Typ 114)
- Leica SUMMICRON-S 100 mm f/2 ASPH (Leica S)
The CC and CS6 versions of ACR are available on Adobe's website immediately.
Hopefully this is an indicator that an Adobe Lightroom update will be coming soon with the same support.

I would have loved to see HDMI v1.4 to carry 4K as well, but it was not possible when the MAESTRO II chip was designed for the camera.
Regarding the audio input: the use of an external recorder is usually the preferred method with timecode syncing between the camera, the audio recorder and the timecode generator. The Audio adapter has an input…[Read more]

I cross-posted this on a few Leica S related forums hoping to read how other Leica S users now feel about the new camera.
Now that Photokina-storm is behind us and we’ve all had a little more time to let everything sink in, here are some of my thoughts and questions (to Leica) on the new S. The more I think about it, the more I like the new c…[Read more]

I have a director/cine friend who has been encouraging me to always shoot video on my still landscape shots, just to provide it to video stock agencies. Haven't bothered in the past, but might with 4K on the 007. I like 4K over HD as it is a bit of future proofing. As a presentation format, I need to be inspired by seeing someone else's…[Read more]

I'm curious how many S users are planning on taking advantage and using 4K video on the new S 007.
Is this limited to commercial shooters or are we looking at a new presentation medium for landscape/travel as well?

David,
Thanks for your advice.
There is no planned triptych here, as the images will be on individual pages in a book.
But you are right, if there was one, I would find a way.
The naming of the images occurs because I am uploading the files to my website first.
Then I do a screen save from that website, and the website gives them the strange…[Read more] -

With this historic/tourist transport image, I was hoping to get a little more room in front of the horse, but fate didn't allow enough time. This is one of the smaller buggies, which carry 4 or 5 people. My only ride was on a wagon pulled by 2 mules, which seated 16 people.

I just bought a late (491xxx) Xenon 5cm f1.5, tested it on the M Monochrom- this lens is optimized for F1.5 across range. The Summarit- optimized for F2.8 at 1m, and f1.5 at infinity. Of the 5 Summarits that I've disassembled (to clean), all were scribed “51.1”on the barrel, viewed when removed from the focus mount. The Xenon aperture seems to be designed to minimize focus shift due to spherical aberration, the Summarit Focal Length seems to take it into account.
We tested the 50 APO along with about 20 other 50mm lenses at the LHSA (The International Leica Society) meeting in Detroit this past weekend. Bill and I did a live bokeh shootout, tethering the M240 to Lightroom on my computer, which was connected to a projector. It was very interesting to see such noticeable differences in the lenses. Long story short: the 50 APO was among the very best performers, if not the best of all the lenses we tested.
There is noctilux 0.95, which I shoot very often. But my favorite is the Canon 50/1. 2 M39 from 1963. In my opinion, this lens has an exceptional pattern.
