It feels almost identical to the M9. I had read some concerns about a size/weight increase but I could not tell much difference.

I was chatting with fellow Leica photographer Gary today, and got some good advice on handling:
We were doing the usual game of photographers photographing each other with a given piece of equipment and I was hand holding the Vario at 90mm and a low shutter speed. Low being 1/30th after being on auto and dialing in compensation. He could get…[Read more] -

Any update on this retina issue? We are now over a year since the last post.I am about to update my computer ( 3 years old ) and was
leaning toward a rMBP to drive a 4K display.
Seems smarter than a Mac Pro which for photos seems like overkill.Thoughts from others are welcome.

Leica Store Miami has created an instructional video series on the Leica S (Typ 006), covering all aspects of the camera, inside and out. Our very own Josh Lehrer explains every button and port and walks through all the menu options in detail. He also covers how to set up a gray card white balance, use the virtual horizon and set up and use custom functions.
These videos are a great quick start for anyone new to the S and useful even for experienced S owners.

A bit more clarification:
The full featured Profoto AIR transceivers are called AIR Remote … meaning you can adjust the levels of the pack/mono-light and the modeling light of any unit with AIR remote receiver built-in (Profoto or Hensel).
The Profoto AIR Sync transceiver is for triggering only, and doesn't have the controls for a…[Read more]

Cool stuff, indeed.
One note on the Leica 120mm APO: you are absolutely correct about the retraction of the lens at infinity. This can also pose an issue when using a 4″ filter carrier. Our workaround is a simple, inexpensive and low-tech one. We took a cheap 72mm UV filter and knocked the glass out of it,…

I just do not understand why I missed this combination earlier. It is perfect for macro work (and is actually how I have my DSLRs set up). I really do not understand why I assumed that the back button would not override setting MF in camera — ddoooh!
Anyway, a smart sand lizard from today using this method.

one thing I allways wonder: When I activate the AF with the shutter release button in S-AF mode the camera will not “fire” before accurate focus is achieved. Thank you Jack and others for this very helpful information! I really appreciate your time answering the question. All the best, Paul
EDIT: Because of the upcoming CMOS model, I'm going to make use of the trade-in deal and get a CCD based S. Thanks again to all!

Similar to Jack and others, using the back button to set focus and recompose works well and fast (I use the same technique on my Nikon and it is faster than moving the focus cross hairs for me). Have not had any issues with the focus. Picking a good contrast area helps.
