This is the link to some depth of field charts for the first released S lenses. I believe the depth of field charts are available on the Leica home site when you click on each lens and go to the specs, etc…..may be in the accompanying downloads.

I intended to shoot all of these wide open…but inadvertently stopped down to f/3.4 on the first one. The others were at f/2.5. Shutter speed was 1/500th for all shots which were hand held using AF. My 70mm is the new CS version. For whatever reason I have a feeling that my new 70mm is sharper than my old one and focuses better. Not basing…[Read more]

very nice shot! Would you consider to share some settings? (for me the 70 doesn't work well if I don't stop down)

you can search the net for DOF calculators that take in account the sensor size and make the calculation for each lens. Unfortunately, the S-sensor is rarely covered, so this search is not easy. There are more calculators – apps, so probably the search there will be more easy (still keep in mind that you need a calculator that covers the S-sensor…[Read more]

@ Jack…I'm shooting with a loaner from David while my S2 is on it's way to Germany. Don't want to abuse his hospitality by getting saltwater on his gear. But I did get splashed a bit on the shower shots 🙂
@ Jim…not only does she not pay me, I don't even get a percentage of her what she makes on all the paying jobs I get her!! But I do…[Read more]

stephan replied to the topic Leica S Adapter C won't fit to lens in the forum Alternative Lenses 13 years, 1 month ago
I think I remember having read somewhere that the Hasselblad adapter is also quite tight, but that it does click in place.
yes it is extremely tight and the button is so small that a klick is almost not noticable. But no problems so far with the Hasselblad adapter

That is disappointing. This was an adapter that I was considering myself. Let's hope the replacement will work well.

Jack and David,
thanks, that's good advice, the difference in download-time is certainly worth carrying the CF reader.
As a side note, the S2 seems to prefer the CF card. When I first got the S2, I tried to update the firmware with an SD card, but couldn't get it to work. With a CF the camera recognized the firmware and did the update…[Read more]

Peter,
David explained this to me a few years ago regarding download speed. And I thank him.
It is an amazing difference! There is a reason CF still exists for pro cameras.I probably didn't care years ago when I was shooting small files.

David,
I stand corrected on salt water spray.
This blog:
http://www.lensrentals.com/blog
Explains why they do not insure their lenses when renters “abuse” equipment in salt water. Also warns about certain kinds of color dust used in color bomb runs.
Never had heard about that. -

Thanks Jim.
That is not really much PP. Looks like a powerful little camera. I have to play with it next time I visit a Leica dealer. 🙂
