Hello David,Apologies for the DM, but I wasn't sure how else to ask this question.
I've been relying enjoying and getting a lot of value out of your “Red Dot Camera Talk” discussions on YouTube, and was hoping you might answer this question in that forum.
I am a current shooter of both Leica M10 and Leica SL2, with a reasonable set of M and SL lenses. Most of my digital images are in colour, but I will often ~15% do a black and white conversion if I think it improves the image. I also shoot film, and most appreciate black and white in that medium.
I have considered selling the Leica M10 and replacing it with an M10 Monochrom, to really move my rangefinder system into a dedicated black and white medium with excellent tonality and low light performance. However, that would mean that I'd likely travel with both the SL2 and M10 Monochrom.
My question is whether the M10 Monochrom really offers a dramatic improvement over the SL2 for black and white images? I note that the IBIS in the SL2 is claimed to provide a 5-stop advantage for shutter speed, while in your Talks the M10 Monochrom is said to have a 1½ to 2 stop advantage in ISO performance over the M10.
Do you think the SL2 and M10 Monochrom might complement one another better than the SL2 and M10, or is the gain likely to be only marginal?
I understand that the issue is not just about low light performance, but your discussion on the Camera Talk (or pointer to a previous answer) would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Charles.
