Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement cap for a V5 Summicon-M 50mm that fits over the hood? I love the slide-on caps that come with various other lenses, but the 50mm ‘Cron and 50 ‘Lux cap design is less than ideal, and the caps are constantly popping off.
      Thanks!

The Leica Metal Cap (14398) is designed for the APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2.0 ASPH lens but will also fit the V5 Summicron-M 50mm lens. Made of finely milled brass, providing a more secure and solid fit

Finding the perfect lens cap is like mastering a tricky Snow Rider 3D level – frustrating until you nail it! I agree, the standard Leica caps aren’t the best. Have you considered searching for generic pinch caps of the right diameter? They’re often more secure and easier to use.

That’s interesting! I always appreciate the little details that Leica focuses on. A finely milled brass cap does sound significantly more durable than some of the flimsy plastic ones you see elsewhere. It’s like they’re building in a little piece of art, even for something as simple as a lens cap. It makes me wonder if future generations will be playing a museum exhibit version of the Dinosaur Game while admiring our carefully preserved Leica gear! Definitely a worthwhile investment for protecting such valuable glass.

I love that Leica still makes accessories like this in milled brass—nothing beats that solid, reassuring click on my V5 Summicron-M 50. I once lost a plastic cap hiking, and dust haunted my shots for weeks, so a snug metal cap feels worth it. For unwinding after shoots, I switch gears with Snow Rider 3D—it’s a fun, low-stakes palate cleanser that weirdly keeps my reaction time sharp.
