Time to read David's fine comparison of S to S2 again.
When I first read this review years ago, I didn't want to like the new S as my S2 was only two years old, and I didn't want to spend another huge amount of money. Reading the review now makes it more enticing, but especially so if you never want to leave…[Read more] -

Could be either … if I sell some other stuff, I can keep the S2P … if not, I fear the S2P will not garner what it is really worth on the used market.
Actually. $15K would buy a few very nice trips to use the S2P … which is the real competition against doing this.
In fact, I could spend the next winter in the Tropics, instead of huddl…[Read more]

well, what was the question?
If you want to spend another 15 k or so for a second camera body? Or for one alone, giving away the S2P?
Personally i don't think a new S3 will bring much improvement, if it is only a new sensor and nothing more baluable. So there will some bodies come to the market in the 5-7 k range, as now,…[Read more]

stephan replied to the topic RE: Elpro for S180? in the forum S Lenses 12 years, 2 months ago
I use the Elpro for Portraits, and it is amazing! But the dof is very very small and the usable focus range is very limited, so that it cannot be used in a shooting with other things than portraits.
Also, I have an issue when screwing off the Elpro, sometimes it is as glued to the lens.
Nevertheless I can really recomend it if you have…[Read more]

Version 1.2 of the software is out, easy to use, and something that should be considered especially of you use the M8 for Monochrome conversions.
Nikkor-SC 5cm f1.4, at F4.
Simulated Orange filter using LR4.4 presets. No exposure adjustments made in Post- this is “1-Click”.

David Farkas replied to the topic S2 and/or M tethering to iPad in the forum Workflow and Processing 12 years, 2 months ago
The EyeFi cards are definitely compatible with the S and M240. The bottom plate of the M240 was actually not to block WiFi signals (plastic-filled cutout of metal right under SD slot).

Thanks, David. I'm just looking to be able to check a larger image while out doing landscapes, etc, rather than magnifying the LCD on the computer. Interestingly, the EyeFi website does not list either the S cameras or the M (240) as compatible with their cards and software.

Take a rope and use it to draw a S. Then extend the base from the top to make a longer S. Applied to an histogram you'll get deeper blacks and more highlights but also flatter medium tones.
At least on DSLR it's my dummy understanding on how I see the images rendering evolving with the new sensor generations.Never had to fight with the…[Read more]

I also think that you can have too much of a good thing.
My Sony A7r files are processed in C1 with a black point at +7 as a starting point. With other settings to balance this effect I find the files a bit closer to the S2/medium format look. The flatness of the medium tones of the D800 was…

It's funny that so many people ask for increased dynamic range, then complain that the files from new cameras with increased DR look “flat” or “have lost the magical look of X”. As you point out, this is just learning a new set of processing techniques.
I get around the flatness that…
