interesting thing about the sharpnes of the 70, as i always felt that it was less sharp than the other S-lenses. And I have probably one of the first lenses.

Easy to do if you have a nodel plate.
This is Moose Peterson's description of how to do it:
http://www.moosepeterson.com/digitaldarkroom/lessons/panoramas.htmlTo find the nodal point, weโre going to need a stick, branch or some straight line about 3-5 feet in front of the camera. Then we need something in the background, anything a…[Read more]

Can this harm the lens

You are absolutely right Jack. Thank you for posting one. About all I could capture today was rain so didn't bother. Every year near 4th of July, the town I live in puts out thousands of american flags (similar to the one in your photo) along the median of the major streets. They have been doing it since I move here over 25 years ago and I am glad…[Read more]

I am impressed with your focusing skills with the Nocti. I know from experience that it isn't easy nailing the focus point where you want it with that lens. The least amount of body sway or subject movement will throw it off due to the shallow dof.
So I see the model is wearing something reddish/pinkish in this latest crop whereas she is…[Read more]

This is the link to some depth of field charts for the first released S lenses. I believe the depth of field charts are available on the Leica home site when you click on each lens and go to the specs, etc…..may be in the accompanying downloads.

I intended to shoot all of these wide open…but inadvertently stopped down to f/3.4 on the first one. The others were at f/2.5. Shutter speed was 1/500th for all shots which were hand held using AF. My 70mm is the new CS version. For whatever reason I have a feeling that my new 70mm is sharper than my old one and focuses better. Not basing…[Read more]

Great review.
I've had my X Vario for about 8 months now and just love it. Its so good that I added the new Leica X (type 113) to fill in those few situations (very low light, shallow depth of field) where the X Vario struggles. The two together make for an outstanding travel kit that covers about 95% of everything and anything that I would want to photograph.
Very late catching up with this but found it an enormous pleasure to read highlightingfor me what I have found so good abot the XV in the last two years of ownership. It goes into hibernation in the winter but is otherwise my absolutely favourite camera for image quality and haptics. The latter I have considerable improved by adding a thin strip of metal with a bottom ridge in the same colour as the control wheel. harmonises perfectly and has completely removed false activation of the flash contact. Much more useful than the auxiliary hand grip. I shoot mainly jpegs and the XV is the camera on which I have least pp adjustment to do.
