Hi all,
An update: I have now written a free software utility (Mac only) to fix this problem for affected images — that is, images you've already shot which exhibit these artifacts.
Here's some informal documentation (overview, limitations, instructions, examples,…[Read more]

Ok, here is an example of a really bad version of the effect. This was a test just out my window with the Hasselblad 350mm. These ship lights are extremely high intensity, but this is still not an effect I like to see! I have also seen it occasionally with the 120mm, but not that often. Only in night shooting with very strong lights in the frame.…[Read more]

Very nice Jack. That is an interesting technique, and it seems to really do the job! I have not tried anything similar. I have been doing a lot of long exposure night work for the streetlight series I am doing. The S2 has worked very well for it. The only problem I have had is with ghost images of the light sources. Since I am not using filters, I…[Read more]

This is a 60 sec exposure with a 35mmS at 320 ISO f4.8
I used LR to color correct the sky and photoshop to quadruple the star brightness.
In 60 seconds the star trails are pretty short.By quadrupling, I did a color select, selected the white of the stars, Duplicated the stars three times and moved the dupes sideways to get four times…[Read more]

I assume since you say you are a Leica Guy and in past posts looking for an MP and noctilux, you might not have any Nikon lenses? And you certainly appreciate Leica lenses? And if you are a Leica Guy you can afford both options?
Next I would ask what you are going to be using the camera for? If sports, go Nikon.
But I detect that your…[Read more]

Hi Stephan and albireo_double
The big problem is the Chamber size and if you use a ‘blower' there is more dust to churn up..I was told that stubborn dust should be removed with the excellent Pentax Orange OCK1 if you can get one and wet Swabs for…[Read more]

The only irritating aspect is that the sensor attracts a lot of dust (as bad as the M9) and cleaning does not help much as I get spots immediately afterwards, when shooting at f11-22. An ultrasonic cleaning system would really be helpful here…

I bought an ex-demo S2 from the Leica shop in Vienna. Had two hot pixels which showed themselves through vertical lines running across the image (why they were not spotted when the camera was their demo, I don't know). Camera was fixed free of charge within a week (sensor replacement), including shipping. I also had the top LED display changed…[Read more]

The longest possible exposure is at ISO 160. As the ISO increases, the maximum exposure time decreases. I don't think there is a way to get more light into sensor than 125 seconds at ISO 160 or the equivalent combination if time and ISO rating. Also, the resulting images look pretty much the same as far as noise goes – regardless whether it is…[Read more]
