Mr. Farkas' response is brutal. The poor fellow just asked a question and Farkas instantly speared him with the hated manual. This could have been handled better. I'll never ask a question again.

TTL-HSS is TTL on the S2. It just works at any and all shutter speeds up to 1/4000th. Set the camera to whatever exposure mode (M, P, A, or S) and settings you wish to shoot at, and the flash will adjust accordingly. Works remarkably well for me in both direct and bounce modes.
Not sure why you are not able to get your secondary small flash…[Read more]

sadly I quite agree!
my problem is that the flash seems to have a mind of its own and randomly flashes when it feels like it in what I would call “spasms” of flash.
would not mind it so much but;
1) sometimes the flash is recharging when I do want to take an image, and
2) someone will tell me, “…did you know your flash is…[Read more]

I just found that thread.
I kept my Nikon D700 and M9 when I got the S2. The D700 for fast AF and tele. However I really have used the D700 nearly zero for the last months.
The M9 I have usd occasionally (for example on vacation when I didnt want to carry the S2).
And then I use a smaller camera for bycicle tours, or for evenings/ parties…[Read more] -

I'm not surprised. The SU800 is a data transmission tool for iTTL, not just a simple IR-trigger. It probably needs some processing power or data input from the camera to work, even in manual mode.

I confirm what IceMan has found. I cannot get this same combination to fire.

Hi There
I happen to have both and have tried. Doesn't seem to be working: can't get the flashes to fire. Neither in manual nor in TTL mode. Anything I'm missing?
Cheers

Does this Schneider Lens come with a Leica-Bajonett or with something else and an adapter?

Here's a question for those that have touched the real thing … are they bigger fatter longer? How much more do they weigh?
from the documents on the lenses, the CS-Version weights about 150 g more than the non-CS (for the 120 mm lens). The size should be the same

The advantage of CS lenses is only relevant when shooting with lights…you get a faster sync speed…1/500th vs 1/125th for non CS lenses. So if you're just shooting with available light stick with the non CS lenses. But if you shoot with lights the faster sync speed will allow the use of wider apertures with accompanying shallower DOF. David Farkas replied to the topic is the 120 CS lens worth the upgrade to shoot macro in the forum S Lenses 14 years, 7 months ago
In my recent conversation with the S2 product managers, they outlined the CS firing sequence as follows:
- shutter release is pressed
- mirror goes up
- focal plane shutter opens
- camera starts exposure
- central shutter closes
- focal plane shutter closes
- central shutter opens
- mirror returns
As it is now, there is no reduction in…[Read more]

I've told my dealer that the minute they are available I want to upgrade at least two probably three lenses to CS … 35 and 120 for sure, and the 70 if I can afford it. I don't need the 180 in CS form.

As I understand it, the S2's focal plane shutter will also still be in action as opposed to say the Hasselblad H4D which doesn't have a focal plane shutter, and only uses the leaf shutter in the lens.
But that has to be confirmed when the CS lenses become available. It seems to me that when you switch to CS the focal plane shutter could also…[Read more]

Love my 120. may be my favorite lens of the 3 I own
But
It is a total handful at anything but moderate to high shutter speeds. In a situation like Macro it's really a question mark for hand hold. However it is entirely possible that you're better than I am.
In any case it is a great lens!

Mark Gowin replied to the topic is the 120 CS lens worth the upgrade to shoot macro in the forum S Lenses 14 years, 7 months ago
As far as I know, the CS lens won't help you (or not much) in terms of less vibration when shooting handheld. The reason is that the mirror still has to travel up during the shot sequence whether a focal plane shutter or central shutter is used. I think the mirror would be the biggest source of vibration. Perhaps I am wrong and someone else will chime in.
