David,
Wasn't that an issue with the read/write tab on the card? -

Guess I'll chip in as well.
Been fine using Transcend Class 10 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards. On the first version of M9 firmware, I had a compatibility issue (no card found) when using the Transcend Class 6 8GB*. These also work fine now.
* Thanks to Al for loaning me some of his extra SD cards when I was in Seattle and my brand new 8GBs…[Read more]

Never had a single problem! I have a San Disk Extreme HD Video 8gb card. It is a 20mb/s card. Not so fast, perhaps, but it seems to work fine for me. I think I will stick with it until the problems are all sorted…

My Sandisk 8gb Extreme class 10 SD card died in camera. I think the process was – review image, zoom image (red light flashing), then accidentally hit the shutter button – not acquiring an image. Then the card was dead – I could take another image but it would not record. The card could not be read in either Mac or PC. Could not even format…[Read more]

I just found this forum too after following a link to it from the L-Camera form. I shoot B&W through an M6 and an Mamiya C330F. I shoot maybe 10 to 20 rolls per year and do my own developing.

I figured out part of the problem with the photo of Jack Daniels. Instead of shooting at +0.5 EV I shot at -0.5 EV.
Here is another photo taken the same day along with two crops (bright and shadow). This photo is much better regarding noise. Interesting trivia – Chattanooga, TN is home to the very first Coca Cola bottling company.
S2 and…[Read more]

Hmmm! Something doesn't look right with the crop above – it isn't as sharp as it appeared in LR. I guess it doesn't matter much since the point of the post was to show the ISO performance. Note there is definitely more visible noise in the shadows.

Here is another ISO 1250 photo and associated crop. This time the photo includes shadows where noise is most visible. As with the previous photo, this one is process as normal, but I did not do any noise reduction. Here the noise is a bit more evident in the shadow of the cave.
The photo is of a statue of Jack Daniels in front of THE cave…[Read more]

Thank you for the compliment David. I am working on a blog post about my time with the Pentax 400mm. It has been an interesting experience. Stay tuned.

Lovely shot Mark and very impressive detail on the crop. That Pentax 400mm looks like a winner to me.

Thank you for the compliments on the photo. It's not the sort of subject one thinks of when shooting a 400mm, but I had walked out in a field a few hundred yards in hopes of capturing a photo of a doe and her very young fawn. I lost track of the doe and fawn and missed the photo I set out for. On the walk back to the car, I liked how the grass was…[Read more]

Wow. VERY impressive shot, Mark. Beyond the fact that ISO 1250 looks so good, the picture is really beautiful. What aperture did you use on the 400mm? The bokeh is really nice.

Mark, nice shot! It really is amazing what the S2 is capable of at ISO1250. I am also very pleased to see such nice results from the Pentax 400mm.

One might ask themselves, why use ISO 1250 in good lighting condition such as those in the photo I posted above. The answer is shutter speed, but to be honest I would have never considered using ISO 1250 just to gain a little bit of shutter speed until Josh posted his article.
In the photo above, I was using a 400mm lens, but I was also…[Read more]

Ok Josh, I am now a believer that ISO 1250 can be used with excellent results – at least in certain conditions. The photo below and the associate crop was taken at ISO 1250 with 1/2 stop over exposure. I processed the image as normal but I did not do any noise reduction. I am shocked at just how good ISO 1250 is in good light.
Oh by the way,…[Read more]

If you could get an M9-P….. certainly none coming in in the next few weeks with the factory closed for the rest of the month.

Like Doug I use a Thumbie too, which seems to balance the M9-P better as well as giving better grip. I haven't had a problem with the adhesive strip and I've used one on my M8 for 18 months or so.
I use a Leica 1.25 magnifier most of the time (because I forget to take it off:o) but it helps with fast lenses especially the 90…[Read more]
