Thanks for all the feedback. We took all of the suggestions in this thread and discussed each one with S2 product managers Stephan Schulz and Toni Felsner when we met with them at Photo Plus Expo in NYC. I've posted the result of this discussion here:

While I cannot be exactly sure why you had this particular problem, I can say from experience that the S2, and most of the cameras I have owned in fact, are very reliable…but there will always be variability. The S2 is a hand built camera, and while Leica's QC is good, they are not perfect. What matters now is how Leica Service…[Read more]

Andy:
Sorry to hear that you are having issues. Are you saying that the S2 battery was physically stuck inside both the camera and the grip? That is something I have never seen. What I have seen is batteries that do not lock very well inside the camera, but this appears to be the opposite problem. How did you end up removing the stuck…[Read more]

The WATE indoors is best on a tripod for two reasons, to insure being level and to allow for low light options unless using strobes etc.
I have shot hand held in well lit rooms, but even a small tripod is a huge plus.
This bar shot was half a second in the very low light so the outdoors would not overpower the indoors and require artificial…[Read more] -

I'm glad Green Bay and Phoenix football has been good to you. I hope your admiration of Aaron helps you get a WATE. I will relay your thanks to him. You really should drop the love of the Bears, as you seem like such a nice intelligent photographer.
Admittedly this photo of Aaron and Clay was not taken with the WATE but I can report that the…[Read more]

rgk;1427 wrote: What is the advantage of using the Schneider system over screw in filters? Thank you.
Screw-in filters are useful for circular ploarizers or UV filters where the effect is across the entire image. A graduated ND filter (GND) needs to slide up and down in order to position it for optimal effect, so the rectangular form factor…[Read more]

Are you using the Lee system for the 4″ filters?
Thanks,

Bob,
I use the Schneider system, which uses Schott optical glass filters rather than plastic resin. I am extremely pleased with the quality of these. Here is a link to the 4″ filter system on our…[Read more]

stephan;1420 wrote: Seen the price of the lenses, I thought it would be a good idea to use some UV-filters and bought some nice Zeiss-Filters.
But are those filters really needed and don't they spoil the image quality (a little)? As far as I understood, the S2 lenses have a special anti-dirt treatment of the front-element, and this also is…

Kipper, I now admit I have the RED in a “partnership” with a movie maker and I would only use it for video as the body is not waterproof and not easy to handhold with your models. But no question about the image quality. From a balcony in Las Vegas I works. Of course I would want the Leica cine lenses but they go for over $100,000.

David Farkas replied to the topic is there a macro flash for the s2 in the forum S2 14 years, 1 month ago
I thought that the R1C1 might work with the S2 in manual mode, but according to a few S2 owners who have the R1C1 and have tried it, the R1C1 does not work.
I'm curious if Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX would work in Manual mode on the S2…. any S2 users have one laying around?

Yes, the Schneider APO 120mm T/S Macro can be used on a Leica S2 using a Mamiya 645 Adapter. I apologize that the Schneider 120mm is not yet on our website, but we can certainly get the lens for you if you like as we are Schneider dealers.
