David Farkas replied to the topic CS lens shutter speeds in the forum S Lenses 14 years, 2 months ago
Your assumptions are correct. According to Stephan Schulz (S2 product manager), there is no vibration advantage when using CS lenses as the focal plane shutter must fire immediately before the leaf shutter. The only advantage of the CS lenses is for faster flash sync speed, which in itself, is only an advantage when shooting with studio strobes…[Read more]

Jack,
I really like the first shot. I also like the more symmetrical version on your site of the same structure as well. Not sure which I like best. You could do a triptych series of 3 different angles of the same subject. Might be and interesting twist.

Mark Gowin replied to the topic I research tilt shift for my s2 in the forum Alternative Lenses 14 years, 2 months ago
David Farkas and Josh Leher brought along a Schneider 120mm tilt/shift lens on the S2 Fall Foliage trip. It was in Mamiya mount and attached to the S2 via adapter. I tried the lens a couple times. It is very well built, easy to use (once you learn how to use it), and it is a very good performer.
I am sure David or Josh can provide additional info.

Whew! I am glad you were able to update the firmware. Also, I am very impressed with your dealer taking care of you the way he did.

David Farkas replied to the topic Back screen in the forum S2 14 years, 2 months ago
Your Monitor Back Plane Brightness setting is currently on Automatic. This adjusts the monitor backlight (not image brightness) based on ambient lighting conditions. To change:
1) Setup menu
2) Monitor/Display
3) Back Plane
4) Backlight
5) Change to Medium
6) Confirm by depressing the thumb wheelThis should solve your problem.

I like it. Well done. The sun angle is great for backlighting the flag and stone building. However, it puts the wreaths leaning on the headstones in shadow. To bad you can't have it all.

Al, it appears you are having a good time in South Florida. In my opinion, it is a sad commentary on our current culture to lable that very attractive lady as a plus-sized model. She doesn't appear to be skinny, but she certainly doesn't seem to be what I think of as plus-sized. Of course I am basing my comments on your photos and perhaps your…[Read more]

Thanks for all the feedback. We took all of the suggestions in this thread and discussed each one with S2 product managers Stephan Schulz and Toni Felsner when we met with them at Photo Plus Expo in NYC. I've posted the result of this discussion here:

Andy:
While I cannot be exactly sure why you had this particular problem, I can say from experience that the S2, and most of the cameras I have owned in fact, are very reliable…but there will always be variability. The S2 is a hand built camera, and while Leica's QC is good, they are not perfect. What matters now is how Leica Service…[Read more]

Andy:
Sorry to hear that you are having issues. Are you saying that the S2 battery was physically stuck inside both the camera and the grip? That is something I have never seen. What I have seen is batteries that do not lock very well inside the camera, but this appears to be the opposite problem. How did you end up removing the stuck…[Read more]

Screw-in filters are useful for circular ploarizers or UV filters where the effect is across the entire image. A graduated ND filter (GND) needs to slide up and down in order to position it for optimal effect, so the rectangular form factor…[Read more]
