• As far as I know, the CS lens won't help you (or not much) in terms of less vibration when shooting handheld. The reason is that the mirror still has to travel up during the shot sequence whether a focal plane shutter or central shutter is used. I think the mirror would be the biggest source of vibration. Perhaps I am wrong and someone else will chime in.

  • Thank you for the kind comments everyone. I was drawn to make the image because the multiple mini falls all on one level made for a rather wide larger overall falls. I didn't really think about printing the image when I made it. The ratio of this image is not very practical for display except for in a very unique space.

  • Nice shot Mark! I say get the print made! Maybe you can wrap your car with it?

The SU-800 Commander for the R1C1 does have the ability to control the SB-R200 flashes in M mode so it should work, although I have not personally tried.

The R1C1 does come with a 72mm adapter ring…[Read more]

  • Pretty cool, Mark.

You realize that if you printed this 20″ tall, you'd end up with a print 17 feet in length?!

The point is for me that I'm used to the fill in function of the Nikons, where you can easily manage the flash-output even in TTL. You set the camera in manual and fill in with TTL, which works great. So now I'm looking for something similar for…

  • That is good to know. Thank you.

I actually ventured outside my comfort zone of landscapes and wildlife earlier this week and did some bridal shots for a friend. Surprisingly, I ended up using all three of my lenses – 35mm, 70mm (most used), and 180mm (least used).

  • I agree. I would love to have the 120mm.

  • Well done David. Samantha is a terrific model. The 120mm is perfectly suited for this type of photography and therefore, the CS version would be ideal. It's a good thing I don't do this type of photography because I would have to buy a 120mm CS.

I have a lot of SB900 that I use (mostly) with pocketwizzards and want to use them again with the S2 as well. Of course, TTL would be great, but I think only A-mode is possible, right?

Yes, SB900s will only work in AA or M mode on the S2. You can trigger them…[Read more]

  • I set the clipping warning limits in firmware to something more conservative like 5 and 250 just to give me a clue when I am close to the limits. Sometimes, this is too conservative and I blow the limits intentionally. The highlight limits are the most difficult to control in my opinion.

  • I appreciate your point of view Marc. It's good to know I am not the only that has issues with the standard print/frame sizes.

Back in my Canon 5D days I got a Brightscreen split image focusing screen with 8×10 crop lines to help me compose properly for the print. It was very frustrating every time I looked through the viewfinder and saw how…[Read more]

    Testing methodology:

M9 with 35 f/2 ASPH on tripod shooting into open shade. I first shot 1250 ISO at 1/125th @ f/8 (proper exposure) then changed ISO to 160 at the same shutter speed and aperture.

Imported into LR 3.5 using my standard M9 preset, synced the WB on both shots to 5400K +12 tint. Boosted…[Read more]

  • Thank you for the crop comparisons Marc. You bring up a good point about cropping to the standard print sizes. However, I have never learned or understood why the standard print sizes are what they are. Those print sizes even require some cropping of 4:3 ratio originals. It drives me nuts as I much prefer the wider 3:2 aspect ratio. It just seems…[Read more]
