It happened to my 120mm non-CS lens as well!!
Sent it to Leica Solms for more than 2 months and I am still waiting 🙁It seems like the failure rate of AF is rather high. Hope Leica will provide long term fix for this problem. Or else it is going to be very costly to service this problem after the warranty is over.

OK David,
Your review convinced me to purchase a T.
And, instead of reading the manual, I reviewed your review. The shutter is very quiet.
The handling is excellent.
The iPhone remote is magic. I set it up as a hot spot. It allowed me to do a quick test of
ISO performance, 100 vs 12,500 without a tripod, just using a table.…[Read more] -

From this weekend: ISO1250 equivalent, using ISO160 and -3EV exposure compensation, “Auto-Levels” and some curve adjustment in Photoshop.
These are with a 1952 Minolta Chiyoko 5cm F2 lens, wide-open.

Thanks Rudolf, I just hope it won't take too long the get the lens back. Six weeks sounds like a long repair time.
David, thanks for sharing. I hope you'll soon get your lens back.

The same happend to my 120 mm lens about three months ago. It had to go to Wetzlar and came back 6 weeks later, at no cost.

I just had precisely the same thing happen to my 120 CS. Whirring sound for several seconds…and will not AF. My other lenses all work fine…even my Contax zoom with adapter is working. Nothing precipitated this failure. Worked fine last time…now it doesn't.

Thanks Arif, today I sent the lens to the dealer and they will forward it to Leica. Fingers crossed it will be repaired quickly. Too bad this has happened, it is my most used lens at the moment.

Can I ask you, where you got the handstrap? Thank you
Jan From DenmarkIt appears to be a Optech slr wrist strap, the picture above and on optech's site are identical. http://optechusa.com/slr-wrist-strap.html

Tried turning the camera on/off, taking the battery…

The Mamiya 300mm F2.8 APO is very good performing lens – nice 3D feel to its images. I don't see them on Ebay much anymore. They typically sell for $2000-$3000 US depending on condition. I like the lens on S2, but it's a big set-up. I think the lens weighs around 6.5 pounds. F2.8 imaged attached (taken with the S2).

Marc,
I'm very glad it worked out. I'm sure that was a huge sigh of relief. I haven't had that scenario with my S or previous S2 since I rarely shoot to cards – only tethered, but it's a good thing you found a solution. I've had that pit-in-the-stomach feeling once or twice and it's not been a pleasant thing. It's good to know there's this…[Read more] -
PebblePlace replied to the topic Next S sensor.. CCD or CMOS?? in the forum Leica S (Typ 006) 12 years, 1 month ago
The CMOSIS sensors has its plus' and minus'. My recent cameras have included – Canon 1Ds Mark III, Phase One P65+ and Leica S2. The M-240 has the most dynamic range (at base ISO) and the shadows are very clean. When it comes to sharpness and definition, the M-240 is well defined at 100% views, but something happens in the down-sizing process…[Read more]

Thanks David, I'm happy for Leica that they were able to accumulate so much knowledge about building sensors that work quite well with their M lenses. I don't have an M anymore so I don't follow the M-line as closely as I did in the past, but I thought there are still some problems not completely solved with the CMOSIS sensor, like magenta corners…[Read more]

The camera has now been sold, and I netted $5400 from the original price of $8000. So I netted (after shipping etc.) $12500 from the original $18945, or 66 percent. I think the resale on the Noctilux would have been much greater if I had waited for the current production stock to dry up. That could possibly apply to the camera as well, but only…[Read more]

This lens has been sold, thanks. I got $7250 minus $150 shipping and insurance for a net of $7100 against my purchase price of $11000. Based on the responses I got from 4 ads over the past couple months (one only), the resale value was less than expected.
