Hi Stuart,
Thank you very much for the detailed reply and for the link to the video which was very helpful, informational and very current. Seems like this is not a unique issue to the S2 and is possible on all electronic cameras/scanners. I will contact my dealer when I return to Tokyo and work out how to best handle this situation…[Read more]

Just as a counter, I have noticed rather real differences between the S2 lenses on a good tripod with the mirror pre-released and with it not pre-released. If you are using a tripod anyway, it is best practice to use the mirror pre-release. I have noticed it most on the 120mm lens at slow speeds (1s to 1/30th etc), but in general I would say…[Read more]

Hi Arif,
Unluckily, I have had this before on 2 DMR's, the M9 and on Imacon and Hasselblad scanners. This is a function of CCD's and how they work. As crazy as it sounds, what is most likely happening here is that a random cosmic ray has struck one of the CCD pixel components and shorted it out. This causes a chain reaction down the pixel array…[Read more] -

Ed, Andy, Geoff, and Mark,
Thank you very much for the replies. Looking through more files, it seems to be in the same spot, is on the DNG, and is only on some files so seems like a sensor/electronics issue and not a cracked sensor issue. I recently had the electronics replaced due to minor issues (stuck menus) but that is not what caused…[Read more]

I like your sunburst. I have a similar photo from this past Fall. It is fun to catch this type of atmospheric condition in a photo.

Hi Arif,
Unfortunately, I have seen this before except my line was green. I was able to show this problem on my camera to Stephan Shulz and Toni Felzner (S2 product managers) at the S2 studio event during PhotoPlus in NYC last October. They indicated that it can be fixed with a custom firmware. I choose to send my S2 back to Germany for…[Read more]

It appears that the focal plane shutter is well-dampened for longer shutter speeds, but my experience has always been best with leaf shutters for long exposures. Basically, I'm wondering if anyone online or elsewhere has ever done a test with an S2 mounted on a tripod and shot at multiple long exposure times to see if vibrations start to creep in…[Read more]

Hi Arif. I have the M9 not the S2. However similar artefacts have been rarely reported with the M8 and M9. In those instances it appears to be a problem with the sensor and its supporting electronics. It may only be evident in particular conditions (as you noted).
The fix in those cases has been usually warranty priority repair by replacing the…[Read more] -
simonrodgerson replied to the topic What's your favorite 50mm M lens? in the forum M Lenses 14 years, 5 months ago
I like the pre-asph 50 1.4 . Mine is the later one with the lens hood. This one is sharp enough wide open. I had this Lens in the older body with a clip on lens hood a few years back. Serial no. 24xxx or something, and I seem to recall it had more character, so I liked it more. The bokeh to my eyes was just so special. People say the later one…[Read more]

Hi Arif
is this just a single line at exactly the same position each time ??
it looks more like a fault with the Sensor if it is.. unlike a scratch which would be more prevalent the more you close the aperture on a lighter background.. I have not seen this before on a S2 but you need to have it checked out.. how old is the Body as a few…[Read more] -
