i love the idea of the 6by9. how much would it cost to hook my s2 up this device

Seems like the consensus is around a Gitzo series 3 ..just as a standard size for the S2 .

I was somewhat surprised by the LL article on “the best tripod” where the author commented on the need for a 5 series equivalent for MF .

Just asking, has anyone tried using S2 / 180mm combination on a tripod focusing at infinity and experienced mirror vibration? With both mirror locked and unlocked!

I am using a Gitzo 3 series (3541LS) and using the Cube when at home and the RRS BH-55 when traveling and both have worked well including some 32+ sec shots. It does seem that the S2 is well dampened.

I suggest you do a little testing yourself with the tripods and lenses you have. Shoot with your 5 vs the 3 and see if for your S2 lenses you notice any difference.
Recall that David has shot time exposures with truely compact tripods.

Atanabe, thank you for your kind words regarding my images. I do use a tripod
90% of the time. (10% of the time I am hanging off a cliff or in some equally
ridiculous position where I cannot get my tripod!)

It is indeed a difficult decision, solely because of the cost.

Well… I made a decision and went for two Crucial m4 512GB drives and configured them in RAID 0 on my current laptop. Just got finished cloning my system back over and ran CrystalDiskMark:

Welcome, Craig! In moving from 35mm to MF, you might prefer to retain the familiar form factor by choosing the S2. That was part of my decision, and the other was the Leica user interface. I'm not a pro, and seldom use a tripod or long lenses for my street, documentary, travel, people type shooting.
