Since all I shoot is arch (with quite a bit of interior work), I shoot in the wide range more than the long, and I'm mainly preoccupied with watching for distortion at the edges. The profile(s) in LR5 do the same job as those I've used with Phocus. I've seen no indication of a poor profile – no barrel, pincushion or mustache distortion apparent…[Read more]

Thank you Richard for the feedback. How is the distortion correction at major focal lengths? Not asking for perfection, but wondering if they can be corrected easily (i.e. no mustache shaped distortion) in post.

I was surprised to learn that the Nikkor 5cm F1.5 AND the Simlar 5cm F1.5 were both designed in 1937. I've heard of those…. Jason Howe hosts my DIY guides for shimming the J-3 for a Leica. Many are adjusted already, some require adjustment for a Leica.

I like these Al…take one more and you've got yourself a triptych (sorry Jack…couldn't resist) 🙂 I recently acquired the same lens. It's a bit of a beast but it renders beautifully and the focal length fits in nicely between the 35mm and 70mm Leica offerings.

Two very beautiful lenses. Both are on my wish list, but they are really hard to get. While waiting I helped myself with a stunning sample of a Jupiter-3 R from 1957. 😉

These are with the 1943 Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm F1.5 Sonnar “T”. I repaired this lens, including moving middle triplet back into place. It had been knocked out of position.
