Unfortunately, I got to experience some winter weather too this weekend. I much preferred the warm south Florida climate from the weekend prior. At least I was out shooting so it isn't all bad.

The windswept summit of Santa Fe mountain (12,000′ elevation) taken with an X2 last week. While the X2 is certainly a minimalist's camera I'm very happy to have 16mpx with a gorgeous lens and CMOS sensor in my parka pocket while skiing. Opens up a whole new world. Yes, I could have captured this image with my iphone5 or D-Lux5 but the image quality out of the X2 is so much more refined. It is a lovely, easy Leica to operate one-handed (which was helpful in the bitter cold) and I have not yet found the need to use the accessory viewfinder.

Kipper, you knew this would eventually be posted as a triptych, you just didn't know when.

I started with the 35mm only. I got the 120mm from David Farkas when it became available. That's all I have and the camera is used for everything. I recommend asking David for a loaner/renter of a 120mm for you to answer the questions you are asking, but don't examine it unless you have the cash to buy it as you will love it.

BTW, I need the flexibility because I traded my M9, M9-P and two Summilux lenses to acquire the S2 and S 35mm.

I only bought the S 35mm with the S2 to put a toe in the water and to test if my 4 Hasselblad lenses could be used effectively for more ‘static' landscape and square portrait shots. It reduces the initial investment and saves me from adding another lens set to my kit cupboard, but more…[Read more]

Constable and Jack, these photos make me cold just to look at them. It is cold here in Tennessee so unfortunately I can relate to the photos. I visited south Florida last weekend and I really miss the warm sunshine. Plus, it was great to see David Farkas, David K., Roger, and Josh. Wish I had more time there.

I like the color shot best Jack. Since moving to Florida I miss the change of seasons each of which has it's own beauty.
As far as a triple triptych…try saying that three times fast.

One of my favorite lenses of all time…and it plays nicely with the S2. Problem is that the darn Leica lenses are just so good I don't find myself using it much.

Today, we received the official word from Leica USA that the highly anticipated Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH, originally announced at Leica's May 10, 2012 event, is now shipping in the United States. Our second interesting storm of the year. The day before was in the 50s and then dropped 30 overnight while raining. With a wind, the snow sticks to the side of trees.

it is always difficult to give an advice without knowing for what a lens would be used.
If you make makro, well, then the choice is simple. For fashion and portrait I prefer the 180, but you will need light for short shutter speeds, or flash or CS or both. I prefer the rendering and bokeh of the 180 (didn't test the Elpro thoug, as I'm…[Read more]
