Let me say up front Leica will not be offering a trade in program. Back when Leica provided better margins to the dealers ..it was the dealers that often supported the used prices. I had a dealer that called me as he was filling out his order to Leica …always got a very good trade in value . This dealer inturn always had great used gear…[Read more]

My fovourite 50 mm: those I have now. I've sold 6 of them, none bad, but…. The Summicron (I) was the first that came and the first to go. I've adquired up to seven 50s and I've sold them to pay a Summilux ASPH. After that I've kept the Dual Range Summicron (II) for the chrome M4-P.

From what I hear, the situation is carnage on the Leica S2 front.
My multiple sources suggest that brand-new Leica S2 bodies might be being sold as “demo” or “display sample” units at quite significant discounts. This could o…

Trade in program? Please. that's wishful thinking as Leica has never needed that. Nor will they need it now. Frankly a trade in program undermines Hassy values in my mind.
New users to the S system require a more modern body, even if the S2 outperforms their abilities. Most existing users who want an S3 will either sell their S2 used without…[Read more]

The NEX line offers 1.5x instead of a 2x crop. 2x crop: everything is a telephoto. The 1.5x- at least close to a Leica M8. If I were buying today: I would either go with an Olympus EP2 again,…

albireo_double replied to the topic Filter system for the S2 in the forum S2 14 years ago
I use a Heliopan HT (high transmission) SH PMC polarizer which results in just 1 stop of light loss (compared to the usual 2 stops with other polarizers). Definitely an advantage with the S2 when shooting handheld (like from a boat, for example). I also use the Tiffen Hi-Trans Titanium Multi Coated ND 0.6 grad filter (this is a screw-in rotating…[Read more]

David Farkas replied to the topic Compressed or Uncompressed RAW files, any difference? in the forum Workflow and Processing 14 years ago
Jack, I just read the article as well. I'll second what Josh said.
The S2 uses lossless compression. There is no difference whatsoever in image quality. Test this for yourself.
I'll restrain myself from correcting the other bits of misinformation at this time, but let's just say that I would take it all with a large grain of salt.

David Farkas replied to the topic Filter system for the S2 in the forum S2 14 years ago
Georg,
The Schneider filters are a lot easier to work with as you can do your focus and composition, then either slide the ND filters into place or unclip/reclip the entire holder from the lens.
I had previously tried 4″ resin filters and was disappointed with the quality and their propensity for scuffing and attracting dust (even when…[Read more]

Georg,
Take a look at the Schneider filters that David sells. They are exceptional. Graduated neutral density filters are available and solid neutral density filters are also available. I bought the one that has IR correction. Unfortunately, I have been so busy at work I haven't had a chance to compare it to my Lee Big Stopper. The Big…[Read more]

There is absolutely no difference. Given that there are a few factual inaccuracies in the article, I would be careful taking too much of it very seriously.
