True,
When I choose to use f3.5 it is to blur the background so soft corners would not be noticed, nor any issue.

Derek,
Sorry to be slow in responding, but I am off shooting in Tent Rocks New Mexico.
In order to answer your question, I had to shoot some tests at f3.5 to see if the corners went soft. Yes they do a bit under huge enlargement.
I never have shot wide-open but now I will know what to expect. f5.6 was only shot so I could freeze the bike…[Read more] -

My prediction for a Leica Mini M is an M 240 type without the rangefinder mechanism.
Why let all the other non rangefinder mirror less cameras keep taking Leica M lenses without an answer from Leica?Another option is adding a path for auto-focus lenses if they could keep the lens size small. Not likely yet, but minituration will allow it…[Read more]

Nice result, Jack. Gotta love those “automagic” type buttons!

I've been testing the “upright” button and found it pretty amazing.
The first shot is purposely shot on an angle. None of these are cropped.
The second shot is merely using the “upright” button I discussed earlier. It does the job.
OK, I adjusted the sky a bit too.
Yes, you can adjust using “vertical” in LR4 but that doesn't…[Read more]

I agree with you David about betas normally. LR5 beta is a free stand-alone download which remains parallel to LR4. It allows you to try out the features for 6 weeks free to decide if you feel the upgrade is useful and worthwhile.
The upgrade from LR3 to LR4 was definitely a requirement for S2 users. The LR5 is not essential. I will be…[Read more]

Thanks for the info on LR5b. Looks like this will be a nice upgrade.
Personally, I'm not one to transition to a Beta version. I'll wait for the RC to start playing.

Nice system
http://www.priolite.com/en/products/details-priolite/items/id-01-0500-02-priolite-mbx-500.htmlBut the question would be how much issue you have with power cords dragging through the sand? A mono bloc cures that, but if a mono bloc falls over you probably lose your mono bloc at $1,600 each.
However if that is not a worry,…[Read more]

We all do dust spotting.
LR5 has the ability to aid me in identifying dust spots from dust on the sensor. If you click on the clone/heal tool, you can then merely press “A” and the scene switched to a high contrast B&W view that allows for more easily seeing where I need cloning out or healing the dust spots. Press “A” again and the image…[Read more]

Very colorful.
Regarding salt water, when we get together in November, I will loan you my gear to shoot in the surf. But don't change lenses when you are lying in waves. Your idea to wash everything off with fresh water makes sense. Dried salt on the lens is worse than dust.

Thanks David,
I recommend a small cooler chest with a carrying handle in the middle. Easy to transport the battery pack and protect it from water.Given you are lying on the sand, I would definitely use the water resistant S2 versus the Nikon. The water shedding lens coating is a big help on the S lenses. Does Nikon have that?

This is a landscape using the 24. This is a 2.5 to 1 crop of the slightly vertical shifted full frame. I encourage you to examine the detail. This is a test shot of an eventual enlargement that will go over six feet wide. The shot was taken out of a window that precluded the use of a tripod. I shot it at 1/250 braced, but when one enlarges it to…[Read more]

David,
The S can take waves better than your lights. Where are your lights placed?
As I have reported, I have had waves wash over my S2 multiple times while on a wave runner photographing sailboats up close. Absolutely no issue. But your lights must have been behind you where? -

Kipper,
I suggest you offer to lead a Farkas experience called “Fashion Models” this November.
No, “Fun in the sun” sounds like a better title. Why November? Because we will have enough CS lenses by then. -
Josh Lehrer replied to the topic DNG FILES in the forum S2 12 years, 7 months ago
The Leica S/S2 can shoot either a compressed or uncompressed DNG file. If you shoot an uncompressed DNG file it will be around 75mb in size. If you shoot compressed, that's around 45mb. By default, Lightroom does not change the file size of a DNG, what you are probably seeing are files that you shot compressed.
