Why wouldn't you just take a photo and then delete it? It seems like it would accomplish the same thing, only without any buttons or special features.
As for a true RAW histogram, have you seen any deficiency in the regular histogram that makes this necessary? I am curious to hear about any particular issues, because I have not noticed any…[Read more]

Actually it's not really off topic Mark.
There are two aspects to the discussion as it relates to aspect ratios and the related FOV discussion: Personal display of prints and commercially viable display.
Prints and album applications are an important part of shooting with a MFD camera because the benefits are not as readily apparent…[Read more]

Not so sure. An evaluation mode might be more practical where the shutter would be used simultaneously with another assigned “do not store” button. A resulting test image would be displayed on the LCD without a timeout so that histogram, focus, framing could be evaluated in the usual fashion…[Read more]

OK, had a chance to view the images on side-by-side color matched monitors
– yes, more noise in the 160 push as processed, but not too evident in full-frame. The pixel-peep makes it more obvious. In a typical 8 x 10 (I know, violation of the 2:3 Golden Rule) would be curious to see if they could be told apart by even experienced eyes.

thanks David, that's what I was looking for but I'll have to check it on my large monitor to know. they look close on my Mac Air
Now what if you just left it @ 160 and ETTR for a stop or two it might be even better…

This is a follow up to retrieval when the SD card fails with the M9 w/ 1.62 firmware.
I made images last August 28th. I was using Transcend SDHC 16 gig card in a Leica M9; it was producing only DNG files which were about 37meg each.
I made a number of images in the morning and had reviewed several near noon. I then made more images in…[Read more]

Alright… here's the test:
Testing methodology:
M9 with 35 f/2 ASPH on tripod shooting into open shade. I first shot 1250 ISO at 1/125th @ f/8 (proper exposure) then changed ISO to 160 at the same shutter speed and aperture.
Imported into LR 3.5 using my standard M9 preset, synced the WB on both shots to 5400K +12 tint. Boosted…[Read more]

David Farkas;1239 wrote: Not sure if this translates to real world results. An easy test would be to shoot a test target at ISO 160, underexposed 3 stops and at ISO 1250 properly exposed. Boost the ISO 160 shot 3 stops in LR and then compare. Without doing the test (yet) my guess is that the 1250 shot will look better. If I get a few free minutes…

Thank you for the crop comparisons Marc. You bring up a good point about cropping to the standard print sizes. However, I have never learned or understood why the standard print sizes are what they are. Those print sizes even require some cropping of 4:3 ratio originals. It drives me nuts as I much prefer the wider 3:2 aspect ratio. It just seems…[Read more]

This setting only applies if you are shooting JPG or DNG+JPG. The DNG file is color-space independent. If you are shooting DNG only, the setting will be greyed out.
