Jonathan Slack replied to the topic What's your favorite 50mm M lens? in the forum M Lenses 14 years, 11 months ago
Hi there
Well, I don't think it's fashionable to say so, but I'm a fan of the modern Peter Karbe lenses. So, although I've owned an older 50 ‘cron, the f1 noctilux, the 50 ‘lux asph and the .95 ‘lux, it's the latter two which are still in my collection. My favorite is the 50 ‘lux – it's so small and neat, it focuses to .7 of a meter, and…[Read more]

I haven't seen Marc post here yet so I'll take the liberty of passing along a comment he made on another forum relating to ISO settings. He feels, and I agree, that having more ISO settings would be a good thing. Something in between the existing options. This would be even more useful if the noise reduction firmware suggestion is implemented.…[Read more]

Thank you both. I thought the set M8u + 24 mm. (viewfinder frame and 32 mm. fov) could be very interesting for a new buyer.

Wow … this would be a fantastic option. Seriously, how do we start our S2 user group Three Noise Mode Petition?

+1 on the noise reduction!
How about focus confirmation with the “dot” I know the are linked to the lens but at least a confirmation with non Leica lenses.

Kurt, I have Silver Efex 2.0 and find the choices and options within the choices daunting. I can't settle on a particular look because I keep trying out the other combinations. I just need to spend more time with it I guess.

Thanks Mark. I've been using SilverEfex Pro 2. S2 files are a dream to work with as they allow for so much pushing and pulling in post-processing … you can achieve almost any type of look you desire.

David the noise option would be very cool.
There are times when a high frame rate is no big deal, so the optional tradeoff would be very nice. Glad to hear it can be done if Leica wants to do so.I also agree on wanting the option to switch the direction of setting f stop. My brain is programed the opposite direction, and there is no…[Read more]

Okay, here is a big one I left off that I've written about before…
Dr. Zimmer, head of digital R&D, explained that noise could be reduced by either dropping the sensor readout from 24Mhz to 12Mhz or by using a dual readout vs. a quad readout from the sensor. Either of these options would cut the continous frame rate in half and double the…[Read more]

David, your post made me rembember another nuisance I would like corrected in future firmware. Allow the camera to remember the last drive mode when switching the camera off and back on. Currently the drive mode reverts to “single” when powered off and then back on

I frequently need to lock down my settings and use the DOF button for this purpose. It brings up the menu item which allows this but it's an extra and, in my case, unnecessary step. I prefer the way it works on the Nikon D3s. Don't know if this is firmware fixable or not…
Also, I occasionally lose my custom functions when switching…[Read more]

This my favourite focal length, and these 50mm lenses are preferred for various reasons:
noctilux f1, v2 summilux, asph summilux and the DR summicron. Definitely Mandler's designs appeal to me. -

Hi Riccis, I shoot only film currently — largely BW — and develop it and print it myself on my focomat 1c with a focotar-2 enlarging lens. I scan rarely, as I find it rather boring. I have a strong preference for the look of film when wet printed. I have owned various MPs, but my preference is for the classic M3, M2-r and M4s. I shoot mainly…[Read more]
