    Got mine on 8/28. It's amazing! πŸ˜‰

  • Phase One's announcements were underwhelming and the Hasselblad H5D fell short of the hype generated by Hass' pre Photokina announcement. So if Leica surprises us with a bold upgrade to the S, they could steal the show in terms of medium format. I think the M10 will be the high point as well.

  • I predict few surprises .

M10 ….will be CMOS probably 24MP ….all that CMOS brings …live view, video,EVF attachment ,better high ISO . Evolution of battery, screen, buffer and card speeds to near current standards . Preservation of classic RF solution . Availability not until 03/12 to allow for more field testing and production ramp…[Read more]

  • Thanks for looking. I have a feeling that this is an issue with my lens, or my body (though I don't really see it in other lenses…or haven't noticed it).
Bandwidth be damned, here is an example. Am I crazy, or is this really weird? It was shot at f/4.8 and 1/250th. Handheld, but the same issue appears in other shots taken on a tripod or a…[Read more]

  • I have some focused just short of infinity at F5.6 and F8, I'm not seeing signs of curvature or anything that would lead me to think there is an issue. There could be curvature, but in my pictures there is nothing suspect. I know that doesn't help you… sorry. The next time I'm shooting landscapes with the 70mm, I do some test shots to…[Read more]

  • I'm not so worried about the Leica S3 price. I think it is more important that there is an S3 because that will affirm Leica's commitment to the platform. And S2 users will know, if the time comes, they do have upgrade options. As for the “S3”, or maybe a S2.2, my guesses –

    1) Still CCD, same sensor, same pixel count
    2) Expanded upper…[Read more]

  • Hard to say David, they are so cryptic.

I think the majority of news will revolve around the use of CMOS sensors in flagship cameras. They haven't been coy about that. How they handle CMOS will be a critical aspect for M and S users.

The discounts for M9 cameras seem to be a clear signal that the M10 will be announced … Hasselblad did…[Read more]

Is it know allready which widest f-stop the 30-90 will have?

The 30-90 will have a variable max aperture of f/3.5-5.6. For me, the 30-90 will be an amazing landscape lens when shooting from a…[Read more]

But in general it is about your preferences. For myself I do not want to go wider as 30mm on the S2. Even if a 24mm on the S2 is interesting. But if you like to have something wider. Wait for the 24. You could also get rid of the 35 and…

  • Any further experience regarding 30 vs 35mm?
I now have 35-70-120-180. I never carry more than 3 lenses (in case of the S-system due to size/weight)
I do however like 21mm for on the M9 (=24mm on the S2)… so my theoretical ideal setup would be 24-35-70-180…but thats pretty heavy.
    So maybe 30-70-180?
However 30 often feels like a…[Read more]

  • I have just acquired a M4-P (chrome with M6 viewfinder) in mint condition.
The lens arrived today. A mint 50mm f2.8 Elmar.
Not used a rangefinder before and it is years since I used a film camera. (I currently have a Leica X1 plus a couple of Panasonics.)

    What film do you use?
Can anyone recommend a film lab. in the UK please?

    Thanks.

The doors to Photokina open in just one week. As always, anticipation is high for Leica's latest round of product announcements. With the huge success of the M9, will Leica deliver the goods with a new M camera? What about new lenses? Compact cameras? And,what does the future hold for the S-System?

My guess is that this is going to be a very important show for Leica. Their huge booth in Hall 2.1 apparently wasn't big enough this time around, so they moved to Hall 1 – the entire show hall! Yeah, Leica will have one of the largest exhibits at Photokina. They must have something big planned.

Well, yours truly will be heading to Germany again for full coverage of all things Leica, and I can't wait to see how my expectations and all the rumors will match with the new offerings.

I'll be tweeting (follow me here) with quick up-to-the-minute updates and posting in-depth articles with analysis and interviews here on Red Dot Forum. Be sure to check back often, and make sure to follow the Twitter feed for the latest news and info. It's also a great way to reach out to me and ask me questions. I'll do my best to get the answers if I don't already have them.

First up is the September 17 Das Wesentliche event (yes, the same name as the May 10 event in Berlin), where Leica is expected to make all their big announcements. Of course, I've got my invitation, and I will be sure to get a good seat with mobile devices at the ready.

Then, the following day, I'll be making a beeline for the Leica stand to get hands-on with all the goodies and have follow-up conversations with the product managers.

So, stay tuned right here for updates from Cologne!

  • I've had issues with the S2 tethered to my Mac Tower … LR simply wouldn't recognize the S2 was connected. Jumped through all kinds of hoops trying to fix it to no avail.

Finally solved it by creating a second account on the troubled computer and using that when shooting tethered with the S2. It should be noted that I did not have any of…[Read more]

  • Any additional pictures and updates on the M Monochrom deliveries?

I am very happy that this camera is such a hit. Spent some years on the various forums as a proponent of Monochrome Digital cameras. My original DSLR is monochrome, 20 years old now. There was never any doubt in my mind about the advantages of a monochrome sensor for black and…[Read more]

I was surprised when I read this the first time, but kept it in mind for the next shooting, which I had a few days ago. I used the S2 tethered with LR4 and did not experienced the problems you described.
