PebblePlace replied to the topic Photokina 2012 Predictions? in the forum General Leica Discussion 13 years, 10 months ago
I'm not so worried about the Leica S3 price. I think it is more important that there is an S3 because that will affirm Leica's commitment to the platform. And S2 users will know, if the time comes, they do have upgrade options. As for the “S3”, or maybe a S2.2, my guesses –
1) Still CCD, same sensor, same pixel count
2) Expanded upper…[Read more] -

Hard to say David, they are so cryptic.
I think the majority of news will revolve around the use of CMOS sensors in flagship cameras. They haven't been coy about that. How they handle CMOS will be a critical aspect for M and S users.
The discounts for M9 cameras seem to be a clear signal that the M10 will be announced … Hasselblad did…[Read more]

The X1 had been a pretty revolutionary idea when Leica released it alongside the M9 on 9/9/9 three years ago. Forgoing the smaller micro 4/3 sensor format, Leica went larger, opting for an SLR-sized APS-C 12MP […]

Any further experience regarding 30 vs 35mm?
I now have 35-70-120-180. I never carry more than 3 lenses (in case of the S-system due to size/weight)
I do however like 21mm for on the M9 (=24mm on the S2)… so my theoretical ideal setup would be 24-35-70-180…but thats pretty heavy.
So maybe 30-70-180?
However 30 often feels like a…[Read more] -

I have just acquired a M4-P (chrome with M6 viewfinder) in mint condition.
The lens arrived today. A mint 50mm f2.8 Elmar.
Not used a rangefinder before and it is years since I used a film camera. (I currently have a Leica X1 plus a couple of Panasonics.)What film do you use?
Can anyone recommend a film lab. in the UK please? Thanks.

The doors to Photokina open in just one week. As always, anticipation is high for Leica's latest round of product announcements. With the huge success of the M9, will Leica deliver the goods with a new M camera? What about new lenses? Compact cameras? And,what does the future hold for the S-System?
My guess is that this is going to be a very important show for Leica. Their huge booth in Hall 2.1 apparently wasn't big enough this time around, so they moved to Hall 1 – the entire show hall! Yeah, Leica will have one of the largest exhibits at Photokina. They must have something big planned.
Well, yours truly will be heading to Germany again for full coverage of all things Leica, and I can't wait to see how my expectations and all the rumors will match with the new offerings.
I'll be tweeting (follow me here) with quick up-to-the-minute updates and posting in-depth articles with analysis and interviews here on Red Dot Forum. Be sure to check back often, and make sure to follow the Twitter feed for the latest news and info. It's also a great way to reach out to me and ask me questions. I'll do my best to get the answers if I don't already have them.
First up is the September 17 Das Wesentliche event (yes, the same name as the May 10 event in Berlin), where Leica is expected to make all their big announcements. Of course, I've got my invitation, and I will be sure to get a good seat with mobile devices at the ready.
Then, the following day, I'll be making a beeline for the Leica stand to get hands-on with all the goodies and have follow-up conversations with the product managers.
So, stay tuned right here for updates from Cologne!

I've had issues with the S2 tethered to my Mac Tower … LR simply wouldn't recognize the S2 was connected. Jumped through all kinds of hoops trying to fix it to no avail.
Finally solved it by creating a second account on the troubled computer and using that when shooting tethered with the S2. It should be noted that I did not have any of…[Read more]

Hello Brian,
Can you shim Jupiter-9? If so, what would be the cost?
I have one that cannot focus correctly with my leica m9.
I only need it to focus close distance. Both if possible.
Thanks

Brian replied to the topic Filters and the Monochrom in the forum M Monochrom 13 years, 11 months ago
Without color information from the sensor, emulating the effects of color filters in post processing cannot be done with sliders. You could selectively “Grab” areas of the image and selectively lighten/darken them, like dodging and burning.

Kirsten Vignes replied to the topic Filters and the Monochrom in the forum M Monochrom 13 years, 11 months ago
I don't think color filters can be accurately replicated in post-production. The Monochrom sensor only captures luminance values. The DNG files produced will not hold any color channel information, making it very difficult (dare I say impossible) to apply color filters in post-production.
The Monochrom does come with Silver Efex Pro 2 with…[Read more]

Good luck with the X2. You might want to see if you can find a nice X (Typ 113). It is a more updated version of the X2 (same sensor), but with a faster 35mm f/1.7 (equiv) lens and improved performance.
I use Adobe Lightroom for all my image processing. If you like the look of the images, be sure to check out my Lightroom preset article where you can download my camera-specific presets:
