It has been one year since I asked this question. Today I saw apple is now selling
a $29.00 Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter. That allows me to do a direct connect to my 6T external HD with 800 firewire from my Mac Air.
This will hold me until I eventually upgrade my iMac to a version with thunderbolt and a thunderbolt external…[Read more]

I wanted to see your shots at 5000 and 10,000 full sized. Could you upload a few please?
This web site allows for very high resolution uploads, which then allow close examination for the grain you are mentioning.Jack

fotografz replied to the topic S2 and HTS/1.5 in the forum Alternative Lenses 14 years ago
Okay, had a few minutes to myself and tried the HT/S and 28 on the S2.
It works fine but does not retain AF … all it does is hunt. f/4 X 1.5X is probably the reason … to small of a maximum aperture … to dim especially with movements applied. Same for the 50/3.5 … although it would occasionally grab focus.
No matter, the good…[Read more]

I have the 1.7X and wonder the same thing. However, it IS listed as incompatible in the instruction manual, so I would tread cautiously.
Frankly, I think it is Leica adhering to certain very high standards of image quality associated with the S2, and they may feel some combinations don't meet those standards.
My main use of the 1.7X has…[Read more]

Now I wonder about the 1.7x extender? Marc, thanks for the test with the HTS, eagerly await more tests with the other lenses.

Hi David.
I can't figure out why, but probably it is the corrections issues.
I will try the 28 and 50 this weekend if I get a minute. I'll also experiment with using the Hasselblad canned corrections in LR to see what happens.
At any rate, this solves my product photography DOF issues with the S2.

Marc,
Thanks for doing this test!
It's awesome that the HTS works on the S2 in spite of what Leica has stated. I'm pretty sure that when the HTS is used on an H body, the amount of tilt in degrees and shift in mm is passed through into the metadata and there is some kind of auto correction going on. Obviously, this isn't happening on the…[Read more]

David,
The Biogon is 9 elements in 7 groups. The C/Y is a distagon formula, and 15 elements in 13 groups…a lot more complicated, and for some with a bit of distortion. That was one of the critiques of some zeiss lenses of old, REALLYcutting sharp but with trade off of distortion. I never saw or was bothered by it. Of course the ZM biogon is…[Read more] -

Hi:
I purchased the almost-new 21 Biogon shown earlier in this thread from David a few month back. Although I've never shot with any Leica super wides, I can say the Biogon is the sharpest, lowest distortion wide lens I've ever used. A great piece of glass at a very great price!

The omission of the 50 Summarit was a simple oversight on my part when setting up the poll. I've fixed it and added the option.
The Summarit is certainly no slouch of a lens. As I tell people who are new to Leica, there are no bad Leica lenses.I'm intrigued…

I will be testing the HC 100/2.2 next week with the new adapter with an eye towards seeing how it compares to the legendary 110/2 with the dumb adapter. My intended use for this focal length is portrait/beauty shots. For me the primary determinant will be how accurately the AF focuses the 100mm lens. Even with the micro prism screen it's a…[Read more]
