Tonight, immediately go out and shoot many more from the bike. It could be a great series. Then do a kickstart project or a Blurb book on Miami at night. Of course it would be nice to get Don Johnson to go with you.

I store my S2 lens down in my camera bag all the time. However, I don't yet have a 120mm so maybe it's not a problem.

    Pete,

Sorry to hear about your mishap.

The 120 lens is the only S lens that isn't an internally focusing design. We use (and recommend) the rear button for AF activation and have never had an issue updating firmware. Usually, we update firmware with the 70mm attached so it has never been an issue.

I'd also suggest not resting the…[Read more]

Just to clarify, if I do not use the rear AF button then this is not a concern? I just updated firmware with lenses attached but have not been out shooting since to notice an issue.

Very impressive use of artificial light. I say that because you can't tell artificial light was used. Well done.

I couldn't get accustomed to the slowness of the X1 and eventually sold mine although I loved the size and image quality. The X2 has apparently rectified the only issue I had the the X1 so now it is very tempting. I am looking forward to David's review.

LOL! David, I have my ways, after all you use a MS based computer!

Seriously, the local camera store, Glazers, had a two day camera fest where the manufacturers brought in speakers and showed all the gear. So I got a chance to handle all of the latest goodies including the M9M and X2. What I have to say is that while it is an incremental…[Read more]

I also use the split screen. I do like it however when shooting wide open with such high resolution the AF seems still more accurate than my eyes. However if there are subjects which are difficult for AF the split screen is nice.
I know many would disagree but besides my Nikons the S2 is the most accurate autofocusing camera I have used long…[Read more]

I had a request for some color pictures taken with the Collapsible Summicron.

These are on the Leica M8, straight exports from DNG to JPEG, no changes to the color rendition.

PERSONALLY: I think the UV treatment that I have this lens worked, and it is ready to go for Color. I have a later Collapsible Summicron, it gives a “colder” cast…[Read more]

@Kurt, I use a 35mm Lux with an E46 filter size, and a 90mm Cron, with an E55 filter size. That would be great if you would still have them. We can meet up, and that would be an opportunity to get to know an S2 owner (the first I will ever meet) in…[Read more]

LOVE the micro-focus screen. It makes the S2 a different camera by taking unnerving guesswork out of manual focus. Added plus… it makes the S2 handle like a classic Leica SL2. It's a must-have accessory. 😮

Meena Yi and General Manager Eric Oberg were quite welcoming and helpful.

I'm located here in the Manila area also. I used an M8 and M8.2 a number of years ago and may still have a few IR filters sitting in a cabinet somewhere at home. All of the detectors used in Digital cameras are “natively” sensitive to Infrared. IR absorbing glass and/or IR reflecting filters keep the Infrared out.

The M8 has an IR absorbing filter over the sensor, but it is 95~98% effective (roughly). The M9 has a thicker filter that absorbs more IR than the one on the M8.

Put an IR cut filter…[Read more]
