Because the sensor cracking issue is a known manufacturer defect, it will be a free repair for the lifetime of the camera (or at least as long as parts are available) so Leica will repair the cracked sensor free of charge even if the camera is out of warranty.

  • Josh Lehrer replied to the topic S2 woes in the forum S2 12 years, 8 months ago

Yes, that is a cracked sensor. The camera needs to go to Leica for repair. The good news is that the repair will be covered under warranty, and they'll do a full “clean and check” of the camera while they have it.

    Pete,
There was 25% sharpening applied, plus some exposure work in the previous images.

Here is an untouched out of camera shot, nothing applied. Followed by the cropped and spotted and sharpened and exposure adjusted, etc.

Another thing to check is that in order for the camer to remember sticky settings like custom function assignments and focus mode, you should turn the camera off via the switch then turn back on. The memory card light should illuminate for a few seconds then turn off. If you change settings, but let the camera go to sleep before you manually power…[Read more]

    Jack,

    Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

We haven't had an opportunity to really test the lens in real-use scenarios. Your architectural shots speak volumes on the performance of this very wide S lens. We are expecting to have a 24mm on our Florida Keys and Everglades workshop in a couple weeks, along with the 30-90mm. Hopefully, Josh and…[Read more]

OK Pete, here are the tripod shots at f11 or more.
Most full frame, unless I needed to slightly straighten. One is shown both before crop and after.
Leveling remains a challenge even with bubble levels. The S would help right?

The very edge of the corners seems ever so slightly a bit soft when pixel peeping. So it would be visible in 6…[Read more]

One more just for Josh who apparently likes car photos. 96% full frame, f6.8

It's possible, because your settings should not be reset that quickly!

  • I can also confirm that the new S hand grip works just fine on the S2. I tested it here at the store, the grip reads the extra battery just fine.

  • Josh Lehrer replied to the topic Cap for the ocular in the forum Leica S 12 years, 8 months ago

It's a clever idea but I agree with the posters above, the eyepiece cap stays in the box. I believe the part costs somewhere around $50 to replace from Leica. I haven't found a scenario where I need it.

  • Josh Lehrer replied to the topic S2 menu settings in the forum S2 12 years, 8 months ago

    Mark:

The S2 should not reset ANYTHING unless you turn the camera off (or it goes to sleep) or pull the battery out. If the camera is changing your settings while it is still on, then something is not right with the camera. The “drive mode” and mirror lockup settings are both reset to default (they are not sticky) when the camera is turned…[Read more]

  • Here is the second in the 3rd ward series. David K suggested these structural shots suggest options in post processing, which this one received. I am trying to make the shot abstract, and post processing allows for that.
    Again 120mm.
In fact, all planned nine shots in a matrix will be just the 120mm.

    Thanks,

    Derek,

Yes, we've already received deliveries of the 35, 70, 120 and 180 lenses in CS versions.

  • As I've tested the UDMA7 cards more I do see that any card 32GB or smaller will work in the S2 so I think that they are OK to use. I'd still be very thorough when testing a UDMA7 CF card with the S2 before taking it to an important shoot.

  • Josh Lehrer replied to the topic 30-90 mm zoom in the forum S Lenses 12 years, 10 months ago

We've only received one very small shipment of the zoom so far. I haven't heard about any production delays, although I imagine this is a complex lens to make. Leica has been shipping a steady supply of CS lenses so perhaps that is what their production is focused on right now although that is pure speculation on my part.

  • While my head tends to spin anytime I try to think about the shutter sequence, Doug you are correct. Because the focal plane shutter is built in to the S2, and stands in between the incoming light rays and the sensor, it needs to be opened for the central shutter to function.
