Since reading about this offer I too have been in a bit of a quandary. Like you (well not really as an amateur), I also own, and have thoroughly enjoyed the S2P! Didn't do the S upgrade as I didn't feel the value was there. Opinions expressed are all very valid and I will continue monitoring the…

David Farkas replied to the topic Now comes the dilemma. to S or not to S? in the forum Leica S 11 years, 11 months ago
First off, some clarifications of details on the trade-in promotion and the warranty on the S (Typ 006):
- The trade-in promotion goes from April 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014. Any SLR camera may be traded in for the $5,000 credit. So, yes, Jack could trade in his Pentax 6×7. Or, you could trade in an old Nikon D70. Doesn't…

David Farkas replied to the topic S2 and/or M tethering to iPad in the forum Workflow and Processing 11 years, 12 months ago
The EyeFi cards are definitely compatible with the S and M240. The bottom plate of the M240 was actually not to block WiFi signals (plastic-filled cutout of metal right under SD slot).

Other than using WiFi SD card, is there a way to tether the S2 and/or M to an iPad?

A WiFi card is the only way we know of to tether an S2 or S to an iPad. An iPad can't run desktop software, only iOS apps,…[Read more]

David Farkas replied to the topic Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90 mm in the forum S Lenses 12 years ago
I used the 30-90 extensively on our recent Monument Valley workshop, more than any other lens.
What I liked:
- Not heavy in actual use
- Great to be able to tweak composition slightly without changing lenses
- Great to be able to use in-between settings (I used 60mm quite a bit)
- Nice to keep one filter set on
- Very useful…

Good points, Marc and Al.
It's funny that so many people ask for increased dynamic range, then complain that the files from new cameras with increased DR look “flat” or “have lost the magical look of X”. As you point out, this is just learning a new set of processing techniques.
I get around the flatness that comes with increased…[Read more]

The CS works in sync, up to 1/1000. Of course at that speed there's not much flash light left, but envirenmental portraits at ~ 2.5 meters shouldn't be a problem at 1/250 – 1/500

David Farkas replied to the topic Next S sensor.. CCD or CMOS?? in the forum Leica S 12 years ago
Rather than going with the same Sony 44×33 CMOS sensor, perhaps Leica will work with CMOSIS to develop their own in-house solution, as they did for the M240.
There hasn't been too much discussion around it, but the CMOSIS/Leica chip in the M is actually the most advanced CMOS sensor design to date. The pixel well depth is significantly…[Read more]

David Farkas replied to the topic Hasselblad CFi 150mm f4 – can this be used on a Leica S in the forum Alternative Lenses 12 years, 1 month ago
The 150mm CFi should be a fine lens for portraiture on the S. And, yes, your best bet is to use the S Adapter V.

David, wonderful image. I agree that sharpness is not important in this case. Peter hit the nail on the head with respect to color, light, and mood. Diffraction at f32 will surely soften the image, perhaps that adds to the mood.

Mark Gowin replied to the topic 45 vs 35 CS Lenses. in the forum S Lenses 12 years, 2 months ago
I only have the 35mm and have not tested the 45mm, but there is no issue with distortion with the 35mm. I suspect it will boil down to whether you would prefer an effective focal length of 28mm or 35mm.
I would give David, Josh, Peter or Kirsten (sp?) a call at Dale or Leica Store Miami and I bet they would send you both lenses to try (if…[Read more]

David Farkas replied to the topic Tethering M240 with MF Handgrip M in the forum Leica M 12 years, 2 months ago
Bobby,
You raise good points about plug placement. Another option for shooting would be to use the EVF, which is how I'd probably shoot the M240 in a studio environment. With the EVF you can use it in waist-level orientation and see the exact framing and effect of lighting.

David,
I can't tell much difference between the crop sections you posted other than the bottom one seems to have a little bit more contrast. The red stripes on the cross arms are darker and slightly more pronounced. Typically, I think of Zeiss as being more contrasty the Leica, but honestly I have no clue which is which in this case.

David, congratulations on your new lens and adapter. It is difficult to for me to discern any difference between the images at the web resolutions posted other than possibly one show a tad more contrast than the other. What are your thoughts based on the full size images. The Contax looks really good to me. I suspect that any difference between…[Read more]
