Oh, I forgot to mention that I can attest the 30mm lens, and S2 for that matter, can tolerate a significant about rain with no ill effects. It was pouring a cold rain which soon changed over to heavy snow soon after completing my try out the lens.
Nick I hope you don't me joining in on the 30mm fun.

Hi Nick,
Congratulations on getting the 30mm. It is a great lens and I am tempted to get one myself. I had the privilege of trying a prototype 30mm in NYC at PhotoPlus last fall and fell in love with it. That little extra fov from 35mm to 30mm can make huge difference and probably fits my needs better.
I agree with your observation about…[Read more]

Thanks for posting these photos Jack. I caught myself with a big grin when viewing these photos. That was a good time.
I was wondering how you could make triptych from the waterfall and you didn't disappoint. I also like the tall skinny one also.

Hey David,
Roger has expressed interest in doing a photo trip to the Everglades so am glad to hear you are interested as well. I didn't have much time on this last trip as I would have liked and the clouds were not very good so my keeper rate was low this time around. I can't wait to geet back down there. I was talking with the ladies at…[Read more]

Hi Bob,
No I didn't wade into the water for the shot. I was literally just a few feet off the paved parking lot of Clyde Butcher's gallery.
I hadn't considered a desaturated color version but that could be interesting so I will give it a try. I have also thought about doing a warmer B&W conversion or maybe a light sepia tone.

Thank you for the nice comments guys. I have printed this at 13″ x 19″ (biggest I have at the moment) and I am extremely happy with it. I anxious to get it printed larger. However, I think there is some room for improvement in my processing technique before I go larger.

I was relatively close to most of the cars, no more than 6-8 feet away. I have had very good results using the S2's auto focus. A trick I often use (in combination with rear-button focusing) is to de-focus the lens slightly using the focus ring then allow the camera to refocus. My in-focus rate for the type of photography I talk about in this post…[Read more]

Josh, your photos of the Palm Beach Cavallino are torture for me. I am glad you made up to the show, but I hate I missed it this year. It is a humbling experience for us mere mortals (financially challenged).

Mark Gowin replied to the topic Status update: long exposures, slow readouts in the forum S2 13 years, 5 months ago
The longest possible exposure is at ISO 160. As the ISO increases, the maximum exposure time decreases. I don't think there is a way to get more light into sensor than 125 seconds at ISO 160 or the equivalent combination if time and ISO rating. Also, the resulting images look pretty much the same as far as noise goes – regardless whether it is…[Read more]

I am a bit confused about the bulb settings. When I take a long exposure I generally am trying to keep my ISO at 160 or 320 to maintain maximum DR and color saturation . Your example implies that setting on B and using ISO 160 limits exposure to16 sec ? And that to get to 125 I would have to increase ISO .
