• I've had dust and stuff with the Leica Monochrom, so someone suggested shooting a cloudless sky, and look close for any spots. But that's mostly for sensor dust. For lens dust I think you should test for 2 things at least – loss of contrast, since the dust will not be visible, but the blur could lower the contrast. The second thing would be any…[Read more]

  • Hi all,

In connection with I did my camera clean today, I observed a dust grain on the inside of the front ellementet. I know with time, there will be dust in, but I have canon lenses that are many years old without any visible dust. It is to be expected, it is 2 months old, and cared it as a baby, always lens hood on.

  • Leica has released a new firmware version for the T (Typ 701) camera: version 1.5. The firmware adds a major new feature that allows users to connect an iOS or Android device directly to the T via Wi-Fi, instead […]

  • Al, the S007 is already priced considerably less than the S006 was, for a lot more features and performance.

While I am solidly in the photos-only camp with you, I think that it does open the use of the camera to those that need high quality video some of the time, to augment still work.

  • Glad you are enjoying the new SL!

  • PC Sync Cord

Not that none of you has thought of this but it has not been mentioned. The obvious answer is to hard wire the camera to the flash.

  • In the latest updates from Adobe, Lightroom CC 2015.4  and v6.4 for those on standalone versions, official support for Leica X-U (Typ 113) and Leica M (Typ 262) DNG files have been added. Photoshop Camera Raw 9.4 […]

    • Congratulations!
Excellent report, beautiful pics. The cyclist riding in the yellow morning fog and the very last pic are my favorite ones.
I guess I'm a dyed-in-the-wool M user and will thus not get excited about the SL. But it nonetheless seems to be a fascinating piece of technology.

    • David,
      Excellent review.
      I am a S2 and M240 MP owner.
Im on the fence with the SL.
Still love my S and M system, yet as I get older it would sure be nice to have AF or a good EVF option for my M system.

    • Simon,

The SL can certainly be used in a studio environment. But you are correct that that you need to turn off exposure simulation so that you don't get a black frame with typical strobe settings. To disable Exposure Preview, just go to the second page of the camera menu and set Exp. Preview to Off. Hope this helps.

  • I love my SL with the 24-90mm lens. Waiting for the new 50mm 1.4 lens will take to the end of the year.
In march/april the new 35mm (50mm) 1,4 TL is coming. If I take a picture with my M8 it gives me 10.5mb with great results.
Is there anybody who has experience with T lenses on the SL?
    Thanks for any answer,
    Gerjan van Asch

  • Today, Leica has announced a new addition to the X System: The X-U (Typ 113).

This is Leica's first go at an underwater and shockproof adventure camera, and it looks to be quite the first effort. Based off of […]

    • Girogo,

The X-U can be submerged to 15m for 60 minutes. 2m shouldn't be an issue whatsoever.

Leica Store Miami should have the cameras in stock very shortly, so you'd certainly be able to get one for your assignment.

  • Here's a type of image that I rarely post, since the quality isn't the best. But I took it on the street at night through a plate glass window, and in spite of using ISO 200, there's more noise than I expected, due to the lack of good lighting. I thought it had a kind of “Home Sweet Home” look, and that made it a keeper.

  • After using and shooting my M6 ttl and M8 (50mm 2.0/ 35mm 1.4/90mm/2.0) for many years and even still using film I bought an SL 2 weeks ago.
Everybody is getting older and even with a 1.25 magnifier taking pictures was more difficult. Doing street photo's with the M (ISO 640 A 11.0 and distance 1.5m) gave me great results.
    So after trying street…[Read more]
