Interesting, they must have changed the wording, mine reads:

    “S-SYSTEM LENS VOUCHER
    Dear Leica Customer,
We would like to thank you for your loyalty to our brand with this special S-System offer. Using this voucher, you can exchange the lens below for a Leica S-System central shutter lens with the same focal length. You can trade up your…

The text below was copied from my voucher.

“You can trade up your S lens, with this voucher, at any time up to 30th September 2011, via the authorised Leica S dealer from whom you originally purchased it. They will exchange your current lens for a lens of same focal length but with a central shutter. The original purchase price of your lens…[Read more]

Just went to the S owners area and the link to the vouchers has disappeared. Luckily I kept PDF copies on my computer.

Thanks for posting this Roger. Just to clarify the issue of price.

The current difference in price between the 70mm CS and non-CS is $1k ($5995 vs $4995). But when the non-CS first came out it was priced at $4495. My understanding from speaking with Josh is that the price paid for the lens is the one that is used. In my case that means I…[Read more]

  • Thanks Josh. Your reply confirms what I was thinking.

For those of us who already have the adapter, the Leica branded option probably doesn't make much sense. I'm a Leicaphile in every way but I can't hand them an extra $2+k just for the brand and the “option” to purchase an additional warranty.

    Interesting lens though 🙂

  • Derek:

It would be important to note that the cost of the Schneider lens is $4,643 (at a major camera shop that shall remain nameless) but you would also want to factor in the cost of the Leica S-Mamiya 645 adapter which is $850, so now are at $5,493, or a $1,457 price difference.

I would say the primary advantage of purchasing a…[Read more]

  • Does anyone know if there is any meaningful difference between the Phase One version of this lens (using the Mamiya adapter) and the Leica version?

My dealer called today to offer me one of the first TS-APO lenses but I'm not clear on why I would spend $2k more for the Leica version.

  • I am glad to see the Pentax 67 lens came out of the closet. I have the 75mm shift, 105mm F2.4, 160mm F2.8, and te 400mm F4 lens. I had the 55mm which I sold it and regret. How can you tell which 55mm F4 version looks like and is a better performer? I will attempt to make an adapter and give these lens a chance to see lights again.
    Best Regards

  • How about showing the shutter speed in the view finder when in full manual mode?

  • Of course, I also use card readers… but still, the firmware should support a proper connection, i.e. not stop the connection when the camera goes into sleep mode.

  • Alex,

I'd also suggest using a card reader to download your images, rather than the camera. The USB connection on the camera is really only meant to use for tethered shooting to a computer. In the case of tethering, the data mode is set to External and the camera won't go to sleep.

I use a Lexar USB 3.0 dual card reader with both SD and…[Read more]

I would never cable connect a camera…unless shooting tethered.

Break the connector off goes the camera…break the card reader and replace it in twenty minutes from eight different stores near home, or when traveling.

  • Thanks Joe. I shot with the S all day today and I agree that the exposure is more accurate. Not sure if this is truly a functional enhancement or wishful thinking 🙂

Either way, it's a fantastic body and the new features just make it more of a pleasure to use.

    Enjoy!

  • I was lucky to get a used S2 kit with 30/70/120 at a decent price in November. Although I did not have high expectations for low light photography, I got the chance to try it out at a Christmas concert with a local band in Oslo. I did not go higher than ISO 320, so in general sharpness was a challenge due to subject movement, but I ended up with a good set of keepers, using the 30 and the 120 alternately. Positively surprised, but should probably have tried higher ISO.

  • ddanois;4088 wrote: Hi Joe,

Do you find any difference in the EV from the S2 to the new S? I found that my S2 tended to underexpose by -1/3 or so, and my new S camera has been more accurate on exposure.

Are you finding that you need to push all shots by +0.5 EV on your S?

    Thanks,
    Derek
