Thank you very much Rob for taking the time to visit. Great to meet another Mifune and Nakadai fan. Yabusame is thrilling to watch in person and the tension just goes higher and higher as the…[Read more]

  • Very nice Joe! I am glad you were able to make use of the +0.5 EV technique. While the S puts out a great file from the camera, there is a lot of “potential” in the files that can be brought out with a combination of tone adjustment, sharpening, and noise reduction (for higher ISOs) within Lightroom 4. I have found that the S images can take…[Read more]

Albert, as you know I emailed you about this but I want to put it here as well. With some firmware updates, the S2's settings may be reset, usually if there are major changes happening at lower levels of the camera's operating system. This is perfectly normal. I keep an SD card with my settings from the S2 saved on it in my camera bag, so that if…[Read more]

  • I noticed that after I installed the new software that many of my previously selected menu options such as two of the custom options and the date/time were nullified. I simply re-adjusted. Has this been reported before?

  • Having used an M9, while the S is not as compact and unobtrusive, the image quality at ISO 1600 is comparable, if not better. This was taken today using + 0.5 EV as Josh recommended. Handheld, auto WB, straight from the camera (no sharpending or noise reduction).

  • Happy new year everybody… 🙂

Here is a few from the S2… I did'nt get a chance yo use it that much due to health problems.. (Motorcycle crash.. )

I hope Leica will consider it for the future Josh,I just had my 1DX stolen,it's a nasty feeling..

  • I had the pleasure of using a Mono for a couple of hours in NYC. I can imagine how much fun you had making these images. It is a remarkable camera and its high ISO performance creates image making possibilities that were previously not possible with a rangefinder.

  • That is pretty cool. I can see that feature of the new S as being very beneficial. Of course there are a lot more improvements in the new S that are very beneficial. I wouldn't trade up for just the GPS, but the sum total of the new features makes it tempting.

  • That would be very cool, but in the case of the S it would not work. The camera only has a GPS receiver, not a transmitter, so there would be no way to track it.

  • Just wondering if the GPS could be used to track the camera if it was stolen??

Very nicely done, must be like riding a bicycle…

No one ever questioned using black and white film, I could never understand why photographers were so skeptical of a Monochrome digital camera.

The thinking is like that of using Black and White film, more thought going into the image before it is made, less time spent on the computer…[Read more]

  • Agreed…definitely don't judge the high-ISO results of the S based on the LCD preview…it looks MUCH better when uploaded to a computer. I am working on getting some base settings for high ISO images on the S so I can make some presets. The S files can take a lot more sharpening and noise reduction as well. I am close to getting the perfect balance.

  • The “readiness of the S for M9 type situations” was also one of my biggest concerns, but I have to say that it is performing better than anticipated.

Even at ISO 1600 one should not get scared off by the view at the rear screen. In reality the file looks much better than the screen suggests.

But certainly no replacement for a M9/Noctilux…[Read more]

  • The clean images: sensor uniformity, resolution, and dynamic range- just amaze me. ISO 2500 performance is incredibly smooth. I've used Kodak detectors for 20 years, starting with the KAF-1600. This one is the best ever. I am biased towards CCD's. It will be interesting to see images from the new M, but I am satisfied with the current setup. M9…[Read more]

  • Enclosed are two more pictures that may help illustrate the “high” ISO performance of the new S. No changes done to the file except cropping the JPGs a bit.

    70 CS f2.5 ISO 100 @1/3s, ISO 1600 @1/30s

Not intended to do a “nice” shot, just to show the camera performance. Also to get you some DNGs to play with – for those who like doing…[Read more]

Pete, the button has a very nice feel to it. For focusing, I haven't had any problems. What I have noticed is I have to remember not to press it in while I am navigating a zoomed-in image, because that changes the playback mode.

    Thanks Josh.
