I have another question:
I bought a Hasselblad 150 for testing this adapter. It works well, but in the EXIFS the lens is shown as a 150N, with has another lensdesign.
I tried to find some informations on the net about the differences of the 150 vs. 150N, but there is not much to read ot to see about it. Can anyone give some…[Read more]

Any suggestions for those without an iPhone? (I know I should feel ashamed but I don't own one and my iPad is WIFI only.)

*finally* got mine, but didn't had much time to test it. Looks quite nicely built.
But there is a BIG fail: I mean this part isn't cheap, but why did nobody at LEICA had the idea to join A REAR LENS CAP? Or how do they think we will use this part?
So I have to order a rear lens cap separately from my dealer 😡
btw it's the same…[Read more]

Unfortunately not an S2-owner, but I started to use Geotagr on my iPhone and it's a breeze.
Just turn on the App when you start shooting and stop it when you're done. You can export the GPS info and mail it to your workstation. Lightroom recognizes the file when you import it and will geotag your images.
Just remember to sync the time on…[Read more]

What an honor Roger!
I believe a few photos from that conflict were instrumental in ending it, and that was one of them. I also remember the sudden end of “Eisenhowerian naivety” when Life published the cover of Lt. Cali about the My Lai massacre.
I wouldn't even try to account for my missed moments in the face of a war correspondent…[Read more]

Very cool Josh!
I like the composition. That you also caught a glimpse into the rooms far left is pretty neat.

Thanks for the helpful instruction. I looked up the Sony GPS CS3 at B&H and others but it seems that it is discontinued. Does anyone know what could be good alternatives?

Nice. The light in the 3rd shoot is pretty nice and I prefer them compared to the stacked one.

Probably a “good” ISO 2500 would suffice for most people's needs. Leica said they could do this with the existing S2 by changing the read-out configuration (do-able via firmware) and the result would be around a 2-stop improvement. If they would take it a step further and add a binning option (i.e. – like Sensor+ on the Phase gear), then we're…[Read more]

It'll have to be a surprise upgrade to make me part with that much cash again. It was the lenses I was after.
I don't have any issues with the box as is … I prefer they do not add a tap screen, or a joy-stick or more wheels. The 5 custom quick sets worked perfectly for me on day one … I just set them up in a counter clock-wise fashion…[Read more]

All the images from our Carmel trip of geo data added in the DNGs. You can root around in the EXIF and see what data was added:

For Firefox I love the FXiF Viewer Plug-in. With it, you can right click on any web image and see the embedded EXIF. The geo data shows up in my pix. I tried a similar plug-in for Safari, but it caused a…[Read more]

I use a Sony GPS CS3. It's totally independent of the S2 (or any camera) and just rides shotgun in my bag or pocket. Then I use Photolinker to end the data in the Leica S2 DNGs. I wrote a review a year or two ago using freeware to do the geotagging / embedding – Geotagging Leica M9 files.
Today, things are easier because the purchased…[Read more]

Leica Store wrote a new post, Leica Announces H Lens Profiles for Adobe Software 13 years, 10 months ago
Leica has announced Hasselblad H lens profiles for the Leica S2 for their Adobe software suite of products, including Adobe Lightroom 4.1 and Adobe Photoshop CS6. This follows the announcement of the Leica S-Adapter H which allows the use of Hasselblad H lenses on the S2. From Leica:
To ensure the best possible image quality when using Hasselblad H lenses on Leica S-cameras with the aid of the Leica S-Adapter H, we have provided a set of lens profiles as a free download for installation in Adobe image processing software packages.
The lens profiles are compatible with the following Adobe software:
– Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 4
– Adobe® Photoshop® CS5 and aboveFurther information can be found in the installation guide at the owners area.
To download the lens profiles and instructions for installation, visit the Leica Camera Owner's Area. Please note that if you are working within Windows 7, you will have to have “Show Hidden Files and Folders” turned on to see the appropriate folder. The instructions from Leica do not have the proper destination folder for Windows 7, it is as follows: C:/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0.
Once the adapters are available in the US we will be testing the profiles here to see how they compare to uncorrected images, and the existing Leica lenses in their S-system lineup.

Bravo! I agree in that I am extremely happy with the S2. That said, I think there is always room for improvement.
One of my only pet peeves with the camera is the 4 button interface. Is it a vestigial remain of the early cooperation with Phase One? Whatever it is, even after a year of use I still do not get on with it. The interface in the…[Read more]

I'd sure like to see a lower base ISO too, even 35 as in the IQ180. Shooting with the S lenses wide open often requires an ND filter at ISO 160 because of their superb speed — definitely an annoyance for landscape work. As broad an ISO range as is practically possible would be great!

I want to see Leica stop boosting the base ISO. The TrueSense (formerly Kodak) and Dalsa sensors typically have a base ISO of 50 or 100, so when Leica starts the ISO at 160, the sensor is already amplified 1 to 2 stops. The S2's quality at ISO 160 does not come close to the file quality of my Phase One P65 at its base ISO (50). If I shot the…[Read more]

Somewhere down the road I hope to see a mirrorless S body with a somewhat smaller form factor. No mirror slap, enabling sharper images with long lenses such as 350mm and no advantage for a CS lens. Right now, it'd likely take a major feature such as that to have me set aside the S2 and lay out the required funds for a new body…

Unfortunately Leica s product decisions are being driven as much by “what can we deliver” than by customer requirements /desires . In the short term (before the new plant) Leica is capacity constrained especially on lenses . This will not change until at least this time next year .
We debated at some length whether Leica would int…[Read more]

Given Leica's history with the S system (i.e. Introducing the CS lenses years ago and actually upgrading their specs prior to actual release), I suppose it is actually possible the they could announce an S3 with some new specs but not deliver it for a year to take advantage of some new tech. I find the “announce and deliver in a year” process…[Read more]
