I sold my M9 the other day… It had had a Giottos screen protector on it for 3 years, and in that time it collected some fine scratches. So I removed it for the sale, revealing an undamaged Leica LCD looking like new.

I ordered one of those Giottos rocket air blower things. I hope it works. Leica says they “take no responsibility” for whatever happens. Not exactly a confidence builder.

Sure looks like dirt spots on the sensor to me. I didn't see any light spots, just ones darker than the background… It seems well established that M cameras will splatter shutter lube and bits of metal debris as the new shutter wears in. Applies to the S as well? This would explain how it happens without the vulnerability of lens changes.

Today, Leica has released a firmware update for the Leica S (Typ 006) medium format digital SLR camera. The update includes the following features/changes:- Support the new Leica S-lens, Leica Elmarit-S 45mm f/2.8 ASPH & CS Version
- New Menu Language: Korean
- Improvement of tethered shooting for compressed DNG
- Flash signal will be output at each exposure time over X-sync
- Settings for bracketing and self-timer are now stored in the user profiles and will remain active even if the system is rebooted.
- Optimized color temperature of the white point of the display
- Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH – improvement of focus behavior
- Improvement of user profiles
There is also new firmware, version, 1.3.0.0 for the S2 and S2-P cameras. Registered owners can download the firmware from the Owners’ Area.
To download the new firmware for either your Leica S (Typ 006) or Leica S2, visit the Leica Owner's Area. You will need a freshly charged battery, a memory card that you can format in the camera, and a card reader.

Leica Camera is pleased to introduce the Leica Elmarit-S 45mm f/2.8 ASPH and Leica Elmarit-S 45mm f/2.8 ASPH (CS) lenses to the S-System. These lenses are ideal for use in many different photography genres such as architecture, fashion, transportation, landscapes and photo journalism.
The Leica Elmarit-S 1:2.8 / 45 mm ASPH & CS version offer the following benefits:

This new lens has an equivalent angle of view as a 35mm lens on a full frame 35mm camera system with a natural looking perspective. There are three lenses of glass with anomalous partial dispersion and two more are made of highrefraction extra low dispersion glass for correction of chromatic aberrations. One aspherical surface on the front lens element minimizes monochromatic aberrations while a floating element moves independently to ensure the close range imaging capability of the lens. The elaborate construction enables maximum contrast even at full aperture and the smallest focusing distance. The design of the lens ensures that monochromatic aberrations are almost nonexistent and the chromatic aberrations are corrected to a minimum.

This is the S lens that we have all been waiting for…a prime focal length in between the Summarit-S 35mm f/2.5 ASPH and the Summarit-S 70mm f/2.5 ASPH. If it's anything like the rest of the S-system lenses, this new lens should be optically superb wide open, stopped down and everywhere in between. Expected availability is sometime in October, once we have a specific date this post will be updated. I can't wait to get my hands on this lens for a review!

At first looking at the larger size, my eyes kept trying to insert colors in the sky, need to have 'em checked I guess!

Just an aside – I think this image is going to “go viral” as it's said. I already linked to it on Stereophile's review of a very fine $17k loudspeaker pair – it makes the point that there are great choices of gear in the marketplace for people who are willing to invest in them.
