Thank you for the compliments gentlemen. Shooting in manual focus really is challenging, can't wait for a long lens solution. Shooting side by side with all of the Canons and Nikons with long glass and VR, oh, and AF made me envious and yearn for younger (functioning) eyes. It is interesting that even at f11 the DOF is extremely shallow and…[Read more]

I know that heart sinking feeling of realizing there is a problem with your sensor. It's even worse when you are the one that caused it. It will be a long time (if ever) before I will wet clean my S2 sensor again. I am glad your experience turned out so well.

Great images Al. I especially like the space needle photo. I also agree with you that we need a long tele S lens.

Awesome shot. Great work.
I have been to Haleakala, but without any proper pollution the moon wasn't that much bigger. 😉 On top of that 120mm is way to short for the moon.

I promised to post some more examples of “correct wide angle” filter in CS6
Usually when I merge I use “cylindrical” merge rather than “perspective”, because as this example shows, the perspective merge is usually lopsided. If anyone knows how to avoid for that, please let me know.
In my search for a 14mm S lens, this is my work…[Read more]

David,
No double exposure, the balance of light, sun rising while the moon set balanced out the exposure. Actually, the moon moves rather rapidly at that magnification making stacking of any kind pretty difficult, unless you can shoot at 11fps of course. Next month the timing may be a bit better as the sun and moon will be rising/setting at…[Read more] -

Hi Doug
I was given a demonstration one to try out first and although a bit too expensive I was somewhat impressed with the handling and decided to purchase one.
I do have very large Hands and find it quite comfortable in use… also with the added Grip Strap attached it is also safer for me to pickup and put down… the vertical format is…[Read more] -

Interesting, thanks for sharing… and congratulations for the bug detection! I don't have a grip. What sold you on them?

Must have been the rocket blower but just in case I've stopped cleaning my sensors with the gas station tire pumps. As for my models… they're more likely to melt the lens;)

The opening was indeed enjoyable and the Leica staff is to be complimented for making
each visitor feel welcome. The presentation was interesting and well received.Enjoyed seeing David and Josh who kindly introduced me to the leica staff.
I encouraged the Leica executives to have more activities for the S2 owners. I pointed
out…[Read more] -

“Pitted sensor” wow Josh, that is one strong Rocket blower! 😉 Or it must be from one of those gorgeous models burning a hole in your sensor, David.
I agree that Leica has been very good, no EXTREMELY good at service of late. My S2 AF was out of calibration and was confirmed by my S2 rep Ben Ross, a week later a UPS shipping label came my…[Read more]

Marc,
This is a great suggestion. Thanks for the tip. I've been using MF almost all the time with the S2 because of its propensity to hunt. This should really help quite a bit.

I will third that observation. The S2 does prefer background focus to an annoying degree and tends to “search” for the correct focus too long. When the camera gets stuck “searching” I switch to manual focus (which means the photo could be gone by then). I find myself toggling between focus modes often on single shoot, which is a problem.…[Read more]
