    Jack,

The biggest difference is that the i7 has hyperthreading while the i5 does not. So, while the speed is essentially the same clock-for-clock, the i7 will have twice the virtual cores, making it superior for heavily multi-threaded applications like image…[Read more]

Interesting pano, and look at that blue sky! I was going to remark that it's a familiar skyline… but it's NOT really familiar, as it's been many years since I've come into Seattle on the ferry from Bremerton, which would give this view.

The most easily identifiable building is that stubby little thing over at the far right, called the Smith…[Read more]

Here's another idea: an option to enable “card readability checks”.

Every so often when the buffer is flushed and the card idle, read back the first few blocks from the most recent images written to the card. Potentially check many images in case the card has a large RAM buffer: we want to read from the flash cells.

    The idea is to…[Read more]

Dr. Zimmer, head of digital R&D, explained that noise could be reduced by either dropping the sensor readout from 24Mhz to 12Mhz or by using a dual readout vs. a quad readout from the sensor.

That's surprising: why would dual vs. quad readout…[Read more]

Are we talking Leica-branded lenses, or M-mount lenses? I didn't have a 50mm at all for many years, using just the 35 Summicron and 90 TE on my M2. Now I have several 50mm lenses but none are Leica.

The first time I used a 50 on the M2 was somewhat of a revelation. I could see easily outside the framelines… which I never could with the 35,…[Read more]

    Hi Mark,

I'm doing it the same way as you when shooting handheld. I do set the exposure by half pressing the shutter release, focus with the back button, compose the picture and fire.

Tripod is different. Before using the S2 I very often used the M Mode. But with the S2 I mostly use the exposure compensation.

I'm a matrix (multiple) metering/aperture priority shooter…at least for the most part. When I shoot Nikon D3S I've got the ev comp down pretty well and it's very simple to implement. On the M9 I find that auto exposure frequently results in overexposing highlights… at least in a lot of situations that I shoot, e.g. dappled sunlight in the…[Read more]
