Today, Leica has officially announced the Leica M11-P Safari, a new color variant of the flagship M11-P digital rangefinder camera. Finished in the brand’s iconic olive green, the M11-P Safari continues a tradition dating back more than 60 years, blending rugged aesthetics with top-tier performance. Unlike previous Safari editions, the M11-P Safari joins the standard production lineup, though total production will be limited.

Technically identical to the standard M11-P, the Safari variant features the same 60 megapixel full-frame BSI CMOS sensor, ultra-fast Maestro III image processor, and internal 256GB of storage. The M11-P also offers hardware encrypted Leica Content Credentials, allowing for tamper-proof metadata to be embedded at capture.

Safari Design
The Leica Safari finish traces its roots back to the 1960s, when Leica produced olive green M cameras for military use. Originally designed for durability and camouflage in field conditions, the distinctive finish eventually evolved into a highly sought-after design element. Leica revived the look for civilian use with limited edition Safari models starting in the 1970s, and over the years, it has become one of the brand’s most recognizable and collectible finishes, blending utilitarian heritage with refined design.

Following in this tradition, the Leica M11-P Safari features a scratch-resistant matte olive green enamel finish on the solid brass top and base plates, paired with a matching olive green leatherette covering for a cohesive, understated look. All top and front-facing controls are finished in silver, creating a striking contrast with the green finish, while the rear buttons remain black for a clean, familiar interface.

As with other P-series models, the front of the camera omits the iconic red Leica dot in favor of a subtle silver screw, preserving the classic, discreet styling. The top plate is engraved with the Leica script logo, infilled with white enamel. The overall look is minimal, classy and timeless.

Unique to the M11-P Safari is the olive green anodized battery cover, which matches the caemra's bottom plate. Because the M11’s battery sits flush with the base, this small design touch enhances the seamless presentation of the camera. Unfortunately, Leica hasn't created a separate SKU for matching extra batteries, so spare batteries are only available in standard black or silver at this time.

Also of note is that while promotional images, including many in this article, may show the camera paired with a lovely brown leather strap, the M11-P Safari ships with the standard black strap included with all M11-P models. In our opinion, the brown strap should have been included. And to save you the trouble of searching, the strap shown in the images is the Leica Leather Carrying Strap with Shoulder Pad, Cognac (product Code 18559).

Press Release
Leica M11-P Safari: Leica Camera AG writes the next chapter in the success story of the coveted olive-green special edition
Teaneck, May 8th, 2025 – Leica Camera AG presents the newest member of the M11 family, the Leica M11-P Safari. With this launch, the company is continuing its long tradition of the Leica Safari Editions, which have stood out since the 1970s thanks to their olive-green color scheme. Subtle design features emphasize the special edition’s exclusive aesthetics.
The distinctive color scheme imbues the Leica Safari’s design with its unmistakable character. Notably, the elaborately constructed camera top plate made of solid brass has been given a durable paint finish in matte olive-green. The olive-green finish of the leatherette covering creates perfect color coordination, while also ensuring exceptional grip.

The silver controls and dials on the camera top plate and front strike a stunning contrast. The red Leica logo has also been deliberately omitted and replaced with a subtle silver screw. The back of the camera is equipped with controls in stylish black. Further distinguishing features, such as the engraved signature Leica script, as well as the “Leica Camera AG” and “Wetzlar Germany” lettering, round off the exceptional design of the Leica M11-P Safari.
The new special edition corresponds to the Leica M11-P with regards to performance and technical specifications. It also pulls off the same extraordinary technological feats as the base Leica M11-P model: equipped with Content Credentials technology, the M11-P Safari can sign every image with tamper-proof metadata, such as the camera model and copyright information, as well as file creation dates and editing changes, if desired.

Its internal 256 GB memory and optional UHS-II card slot allows creatives to capture in DNG and JPG formats, while the LCD panel, which is made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and features an anti-reflective coating, allows for full control even in challenging visibility conditions. Extremely brilliant images that are rich in contrast and details are provided by the high-performance BSI CMOS full-frame sensor with Triple Resolution Technology, which enables a choice of image resolutions from the options of 60, 36 or 18 megapixels. Thanks to seamless connectivity via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cable, the camera can be quickly and conveniently connected with the Leica FOTOS App. Bluetooth Low Energy allows photos to be transmitted in the background in a way that is both quick and energy efficient.

Leica M-Cameras have been synonymous with precision craftsmanship, uncompromising quality and timeless understatement for over 70 years. The Leica M11-P Safari is the perfect choice for anyone who particularly values exclusivity, aesthetics and style. The special edition is supplied together with a black carrying strap by Leica, which is packaged in sustainable material. The high-quality boxes do not contain any plastic at all and are also produced in Germany.
