Today, Leica has released firmware version 3.1.1 for the SL3 and SL3-S. This update introduces new C6K and C4K ProRes 422 HQ internal video recording for the SL3, expands autofocus functionality, and brings back joystick magnification. Additional improvements focus on enhancing user interface controls, streamlining the firmware update process and expanding electronic shutter options.
As always, we recommend updating your camera to the latest firmware to take advantage of new features and system optimizations. Download links and installation instructions are provided below. Of course, you can also update via the latest Leica FOTOS app as well.
New
EU Eco-Design Compliance
The SL3 and SL3-S now comply with the requirements of Lot6 and Lot26 under Regulation (EU) 2023/826, ensuring compliance with the latest environmental standards.
New Video Formats for C4K and C6K for the SL3

Improvements
Headphone Volume Control
The Headphone Volume setting is now accessible through the Audio section of the Video menu and can also be assigned to a function button for quick adjustment.
Joystick Magnification Control
The joystick can now activate and deactivate the Magnification function for manual focus lenses, making it faster and more intuitive to check focus accuracy during shooting. Leica listened to customer feedback here, bringing back a core function from previous SL generations.
Control Center Icon Assignments
When changing icon assignments in the Control Center, the function assignment list will now open directly to the currently assigned option, speeding up menu navigation.

Leica Looks Menu Update
The former Film Style and Video Style menus (previously accessible via JPG Settings) have been integrated into the Leica Looks menu and are now directly accessible from the Main Menu.
Firmware Update Process
The update process has been optimized. Previous settings will now remain unchanged after an update, and the “Save profiles on SD card?” prompt has been removed. A battery charge level of just 25% is now sufficient to start the update. Such a welcome addition and will make updating in the future that much easier.
Electronic Shutter Improvements
The maximum electronic shutter speed of 1/16,000 second is now available in Program (P) and Aperture Priority (A) modes, offering greater control for bright environments without the need for ND filters.
Expanded AF-ON Functionality
The AF-ON button can now be used in combination with Eye/Face/Body Detection and Animal Detection, improving autofocus behavior across a wider range of shooting scenarios.

Error Corrections
User Profile Indicator
An icon with an asterisk now appears next to the User Profiles icon in the Control Center and sidebar to indicate if any settings have been modified after activating a profile.
AF-ON Included in User Profile
In cases where AF-ON has been assigned to the joystick, this setting will now be correctly saved to user profiles.
Download Firmware Files
To download the firmware file, simply click the buttons below. You'll need to drag and drop the downloaded firmware file onto an SD card which was freshly formatted in the SL3-S, then insert the card into your camera with a fully charged battery. Navigate to the Camera Information menu to access the firmware update option. Don't try to open the firmware file on your computer – just copy it onto the SD card into the root directory. Full step-by-step instructions are below.
Alternatively, you can also update via the Leica FOTOS app if paired with your SL3 or SL3-S camera.
