Interesting that they recommend not reformatting cards, either in camera or computer. I typically reformat in camera on a regular basis.

Thank you for the replies. I suspected that my test was flawed and should be reperformed. I will try again with a flat target. Also, I have an idea for constructing a 3D target which would be shot head-on that I might try as well.
For what it is worth, the test subject target above was my second attempt at a focus test. The first test was…[Read more]

It's a flawed test. There might be some back focus but you cannot be sure.
The flaw is the target being slanted. The AF sensor has some physical size so there simply is no well-defined distance to focus at when the target is not parallel to the…[Read more]

Mark,
Looks like the auto focus picked the 8 as the area with the most contrast and thus looks like it is back focusing. Does this happen at close distances with a flat target? One way to do this is to get parallel with a flat target, let auto focus choose the focus point and then ever so slightly tweak the focus back and forward, each time…[Read more] -

The latest from Leica's Facebook page:
Leica Camera has recently become aware of customers experiencing compatibility issues related to select types of new memory cards when used in the Leica M9. The misbehavior occurs in very limited cases (< 0.1% of total No. of sold M9/M9-P), but because it is associated with the loss of images, we…[Read more]

Its good that Leica has been liberal in honoring warranties especially on used items purchased thru dealers.
My motive is really to expose the scalpers that get on 12 lists and then resell the scarce items for a profit. ( not on this forum). This process undermines those that want to use the lenses. Lets say a dealer has a list of 6 for…[Read more]

Jack, thank you for the explanation and thanks for posting the 1/25 sec shot. I agree with you, the 1/60 sec shot is much better. Frankly, I probably wouldn't have even tried the 1/60 sec shot hand held. It is good to have my eyes opened to other possibilities.

Mark,
The only noise reduction was via the Dale S2 presets for 1250.
Had I wanted to use that shot, I might have played with it a bit more, but I liked what the preset did this time.Regarding hand holding, I thought I didn't have much more movement than the friend's shot at 1/400th, so thanks for the compliment. I did one shot at 1/25th…[Read more]

I think everything on the DMR was due to faulty electrical . The contacts once completely cleaned helped a lot but the batteries were starting to age and depending on the usage (a lot of captures in a short period of time ) would sometimes overwhelm the battery power.
I could see the files ..I would get images then null files…[Read more]

Hi Jack, did you do any noise reduction on your photo? The noise doesn't look to bad. Also, I am very impressed with your hand holding capability with the 120m at 1/60 sec.

For some reason the color doesn't look right on the above photos – at least they are not similar to what they look like in LR3. The colors are more muted and the red is more orangish above versus in LR3. I verified that I exported to sRGB so that isn't the problem.

I was shooting some portraits in the deep shade with another photographer last weekend. Handheld, I had to go to 1250 to keep camera shake out of a 120mm lens. He was shooting another camera and he was amazed at what the S2 could do. He also loved the simplicity of the S controls versus his camera. The only control he missed was a dial that could…[Read more]
